Spring is in the air, and so is the sound of carabiners clicking!

Matthews Phase 2 Update

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as construction has interrupted our operational hours recently. We are doing our best to minimize these disruptions while ensuring the construction crew follows the timeline. Our updated and tentative finish date is July 1st.

The completion of Matthews Phase 2 is quickly approaching! The blue tarps that were previously hanging from the ceiling have been removed. This now-cleared view will allow you to watch the progress in real-time as Walltopia begins to put up the skeletons of the new climbing structures. Here are some things to look for during your next visit:

  • The Rappel platform, or the "Baby Prow" as we call it, is framed after less than a week of work.
  • We have upgraded the existing lighting as well as added five new skylights! These additions have made the whole place feels a little warmer and brighter.
  • Contractors are preparing to begin constructing the new Routesetting Shed off the back of the building in the next two weeks.
  • HVAC, electrical, and fire suppression systems additions are about 95% completed at this point—nothing fun to look at here.

We've received over 2,000 lbs of brand-new climbing holds in preparation for the new climbing terrain- and there's more to come!

Walltopia will be hard at work for at least eight weeks, getting all the framing up and securing thousands of contact points. After Walltopia completes their work, we'll only need to install the flooring, pass final inspections, and get fun plastic holds bolted on the wall!

Reel Rock 17: Success!

We are so grateful to everyone who participated in our Reel Rock Film Fest! Thanks to our Members' and Sponsors' generosity, we donated $1,500 to the Carolina Climber's Coalition!!

This contribution will directly fund the repayment of the loan used to purchase the property, build the parking lot, and fund the long-term stewardship and legal defense costs associated with owning the Maibauer Boulders.
