Volume IV, 2024

‘From you have I been absent in the spring’

William Shakespeare

From you have I been absent in the spring,

When proud pied April dress’d in all his trim

Hath put a spirit of youth in every thing,

That heavy Saturn laugh’d and leap’d with him.

Yet nor the lays of birds nor the sweet smell

Of different flowers in odour and in hue

Could make me any summer’s story tell,

Or from their proud lap pluck them where they grew;

Nor did I wonder at the lily’s white,

Nor praise the deep vermilion in the rose;

They were but sweet, but figures of delight,

Drawn after you, you pattern of all those.

Yet seem’d it winter still, and, you away,

As with your shadow I with these did play.

Dear Friends

Not one, but two Jazz Girls Days in Vienna and Linz, Austria this year - it's been an amazing and uplifting March! I'm grateful to all the organizers, sponsors, inspiring mentors, and personnel at the Jam Music Lab University in Vienna and the Anton Bruckner University in Linz who made it possible. Enjoy this video excerpt of our concert celebrating International Women's Day with the ending affirmation: Who Run the World - Girls!

I'm also excited to announce that my Big Band Arrangement of Just Another Day at the Office, the composition that was included in Terri Lyne Carrington's Berklee Publication: New Standards - 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers, is now available through the Alfred Publishing Catalogue. Follow this link to order and add to your Jazz Ensemble Repertoire.

Who will be at Jazz Ahead in Bremen, April 11-13? Let's meet and hang, send me a note. And come cheer on the Sheroes with Jamie Baum, Gina Schwarz, and Mareike Wiening at Club Night, Friday, April 12, 6pm at Etage, Info Here.

I will be Back Home in Indiana most of the month of May, celebrating our daughter Jasmin's graduation from IU with a BS in Software Engineering. Happy to make music with friends - let me know! I will also be in New York May 13 for the US Auditions for the Jam Music Lab University at the Austrian Cultural Forum. Please share this opportunity with anyone interested in studying Jazz, Popular Music, or Music Production in Vienna - here is the info, an amazing opportunity to spend time in one of the cultural capitals of the world.
