April News on the Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project

Issue 47 | April 2023

Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making many intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.

Construction Updates

In March, crews continued construction activities along the corridor:

Area 1: Reston Avenue to Colvin Forest Drive (Except Baron Cameron Avenue Intersection)

Continued construction of the shared-use paths along Route 7.
Drilled noise barrier foundations along westbound Route 7 near Springvale Road.

Area 2: Baron Cameron Intersection

Continued construction of the improvements on Baron Cameron Avenue between Route 7 and Hunter Gate Way.

Area 3: Difficult Run Area (Colvin Forest Drive to Faulkner Drive)

Completed storm sewer installation for Stage 3A between the east end of Colvin Run Road and Faulkner Drive.
Placed concrete for the deck of the new Difficult Run bridge on westbound Route 7.

Area 4: Faulkner Drive to Jarrett Valley Drive

Installed noise barrier panels along eastbound Route 7 between Towlston Road and Jill's House.
Completed drilling for the foundations of the retaining wall along westbound Route 7 near Faulkner Drive.
Completed storm sewer installation for Stage 3A between Towlston Road and Lucky Estates Drive.
Continued earth-moving activities, grading, and placement of soil cement along eastbound Route 7 between Towlston Road and Lucky Estates Drive.
Began base asphalt paving and curb construction along eastbound Route 7 between Beulah Road and Atwood Road, and between Lucky Estates Drive and Lewinsville Road.
Completed rough excavation for the stormwater management pond between Wolftrap Run Road and Jill's House.

Third-party utility design and relocation activities are also ongoing.

Work Continues Along Route 7

Construction activities will continue along Route 7 through the spring and summer months, and surface paving will take place during the overnight hours starting in April. Please see the project website for information on upcoming lane shifts and other roadway impacts.
