Shows & Exhibits
Notorious Weld Virtual Exhibit
Jones Library, Amherst, MA
Local sculptor Jon Bander enjoys bringing life to life old and broken tools and other found materials. He combines a passion for art and with a love for welding. He finds and uses manufactured shapes, placing them in new ways, cutting and welding them into something entirely new and original. The foundation of his art is in repurposing old materials. For instance, the “Cutlery Carnivore” (a large bird of prey) is constructed with over a thousand pieces of discarded silverware.

At 26 years old, Bander is just at the beginning of his art career, but he has been welding since he was 14. He is now in his fourth year of working as a sculptor. For the past two years, he has had the amazing opportunity to work with steampunk designer and re-imagineer Bruce Rosenbaum of ModVic on projects such as the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea aquarium seen in this exhibit.

A collection of Bander's work is being hosted online by the Burnett Gallery during the month of April, 2021. You may also view his work on notorious-weld.com, and @notoriousweld on Instagram. Email: jbander94@gmail.com
Inside Voices: A Members' Exhibition
ArtsWorcester, Worcester, MA
in partnership with the Fitchburg Art Museum

Through May 2, 2021
in person & online

As we have all been asked to stay inside this year, interior spaces have become heightened reflective zones. Inside Voices prompts artists to consider a wide range of interiors, including domestic environments, psychological subjectivity, bodies, architecture, and sculptural containment. The one hundred artistic spaces created for this exhibition reveal symbolic weight, mental and emotional states, fantasy worlds, gender roles, and personal memories.

For this ninth Call and Response collaboration between ArtsWorcester and the Fitchburg Art Museum, artists responded not only to the idea of interiority, but directly to one (or more) of ten artworks on loan from the Museum.

Inside Voices: A Members' Exhibition in partnership with the Fitchburg Art Museum is on view in ArtsWorcester's main galleries and on our website through May 2, 2021. Gallery hours run Thursdays through Sundays, 12:00 to 5:00 PM.

Visitors must reserve a free, forty-five minute appointment in advance on Eventbrite before entering. Gallery capacity will be limited to ten visitors at any time, and all visitors are required to wear masks or face coverings.

We thank our friends and partners at the Fitchburg Art Museum for sharing their collection so generously with our artists.

Project Planning for Artists

Wednesday April 28, 2021 from 5-6:30pm
Presenter Shanta Gander

Project planning can often seem daunting. If you are a writer, you may have questions of where to start in terms of managing all your writing projects. These questions also include thinking about timelines for creating and submitting your material. If you work in other areas as an artist—whether you are a painter, dancer, work with textiles, or within any other medium—how do you pace a project to completion as life is happening? This workshop is for the writer or artist at any stage in their career.
