MHALA Hosts Mobile Healthcare for Veterans

MHALA chief service officers Luis Montes and Luther Richert hold MHALA's DEI award certificate.

MHALA is hosting a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs mobile medical unit at our Palmdale location monthly. On the second Tuesday of each month, eligible Veterans can stop by to receive on-the-spot healthcare and wellness checks, connections to housing resources and other services, and assistance with disability claims.

During the first event in April, our Veterans Program was able to successfully screen and enroll two Veterans who could benefit from our services. The next event will be on May 14.

MHALA Offers Supportive Services at Two New Housing Locations

MHALA provides integrative services at housing locations throughout Los Angeles County. This month, we expanded our reach to two more locations: Wellspring in Long Beach and Juniper Grove Apartments in Palmdale.

Wellspring is an 88-unit affordable housing development in Long Beach’s Cambodia Town that includes 20 permanent supportive housing units. MHALA partnered with BRIDGE Housing Corp. to provide case management for the individuals living in those units, keeping them linked to healthcare, food resources, and other needed services.

Juniper Grove is a 101-unit affordable housing development. MHALA partnered with Meta Housing Corp. to provide case management and mental health services including therapy, connections to psychiatry, and medication management  to individuals in 50 of those units.

Celebrating Graduates of the MHALA & Cedars-Sinai Wellness and Behavioral Health Certification Program

MHALA Cedars-Sinai certificate of completion

This month, we graduated 25 people from the second cohort of our new MHALA & Cedars-Sinai Wellness and Behavioral Health Certification Program. The program provides education and training on an integrated model of wellness incorporating mental and physical health models of client care. This course is offered through a grant from Cedars-Sinai to prepare participants for employment as a Behavioral Health Specialist in the mental health or healthcare fields.

“I hope that more individuals get the opportunity to go through this program to help spread awareness of mental health and also join a career that is so rewarding and needed in our communities,” said one of the graduates.

Twenty-four people graduated from the program’s first cohort last fall, with many going on to secure employment or obtain a new role at healthcare organizations through LA County. We are so proud of all of our graduates!
