23 April 2024 – Mrs Kylie Garaty – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Scopolamine and Atropine have been detected in the urine sample taken from YESNOMAYBESO following its win in race 8, the GARRARDS HORSE AND HOUND PACE (2030 metres) conducted at Newcastle on Monday 29 January 2024.
The reserve portion and control sample have been sent to Racing Analytical Services LTD (RASL) in Victoria for confirmation.

30 April 2024 – Mr Toby Inwood – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from Australian Government National Measurement Institute (NMI) that Cobalt above the threshold of 100 micrograms per litre in urine has been detected in the urine sample taken from MAGIC TULHURST following its win in race 6, the GOLD CROWN MAJOR SPONSOR DRAW 6TH MARCH PACE (1730 metres) conducted at Bathurst on Wednesday 28 February 2024.
The reserve portion and control solution have been sent to the Chemcentre in Western Australia for confirmation.

17 April 2024– Mr Dean Chapple – HRNSW Stewards conducted an Inquiry in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Meloxicam was detected in the pre-race blood sample taken from CAYMANGONE prior to race 2, the WEST TAMWORTH LEAGUE CLUB PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Tamworth on Thursday 21 September 2023.
The ‘B’ sample was confirmed by Racing Analytical Services Limited in Victoria.
Mr Chapple pleaded guilty to two (2) charges issued by the HRNSW Stewards pursuant to Australian Harness Racing Rules as follows:
Charge 1- Issued pursuant to AHRR 190 (1), (2) & (4).
Charge 2- Issued pursuant to AHRR 194 (a), (b) & (c).
HRNSW Stewards issued the following penalties:
Charge 1- 2 years disqualification to commence immediately.
Charge 2- 6 months suspension to be served concurrent to Charge 1.
Acting under the provisions of AHRR 195, CAYMANGONE was disqualified from the abovementioned race.
Mr Chapple has appealed the decisions of the HRNSW Stewards.
Appeal Decisions

2 April 2024 - Mr Luke McCarthy appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to suspend his driver’s licence for a period of 7 days after he was found guilty of a charge issued pursuant to AHRR 163(1)(a)(iii) when driving the horse KIMA in Race 6 at Bathurst on Wednesday 20 March 2024.
By decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel the appeal was upheld and the suspension imposed by Stewards was set aside.

15 April 2024 - Mr Corey Johnson appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to suspend his driver’s licence for a period of 28 days after he pleaded guilty to a charge issued pursuant to AHRR 149(2) when driving the horse JAKE SPORTSWRITER in Race 5 at Broken Hill on Friday 15 March 2024.
By decision of the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal the appeal was dismissed and the 28 day suspension confirmed.

22 April 2024 - Mr Cameron Ross appealed the decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel to a disqualify him for a period of 7 months after he pleaded guilty to charges issued pursuant to AHRR 190(1), (2) & (4) and AHRR 196A (1)(ii) & (2) following a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that dexamethasone was detected in the post-race urine sample taken MACHS LEGACY following its win in race 5, the MARES SLIPPER PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Newcastle on Friday 10 February 2023.
By decision of the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal, the appeal was dismissed and a period of disqualification of 7 months was confirmed.
As a result of Mr Ross having served 2½ months of the disqualification prior to the date of the decision, the balance of the disqualification, namely 4½ months, commenced at midnight on 23 April 2024.
Integrity Information –
- During the month of April 2024, HRNSW Integrity department obtained 710 race day samples.
As per normal HRNSW procedure all samples have been submitted for analysis.
