APRIL 2024

Congratulations to our RCIA/OCIA Class of 2024!

This year at the Easter Vigil, we had 26 people receive their sacraments! There were nine adults and four adolescents who received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist. We had another 13 people, baptized previously in different denominations, receive their First Eucharist and Confirmation after making a profession of faith.

In addition, this year in RCIA/OCIA, we had another seven people who had been previously baptized Catholic, but had never been Confirmed. They received the sacrament of Confirmation on February 17, after participating in RCIA/OCIA throughout the year.

Dublin Food Pantry Collection

The Dublin Food Pantry (DFP) has been serving the Dublin community for 48 years. It shocks people to hear that there is food insecurity in such a vibrant, affluent community but the need is great. Since 2019, the pantry has seen a 232% increase in clients served. In 2023, the average number of clients served monthly was 3727. Each of the 4 days served, we are seeing many families who are making their first trip to a pantry.

St. Brigid has always been a strong supporter of the DFP through donations, service at the pantry both throughout the year and in our volunteer month of May. Let’s make this collection our largest to date!!

Before and after Masses on April 27-28, volunteers will be collecting your donations in Hendricks Hall for the pantry. If you are not available that weekend, please leave them in the collection closet located by the kitchen in the hall and our volunteers will deliver them to the pantry. If you can help collect around a Mass, please contact Geraldine at (609) 532-1986 or rgeraldine26@gmail.com.

Any donation will be appreciated but the urgent need is for the following items:

Jelly, oatmeal, soup, ramen, pancake mix (regular size) & syrup, can black beans, cereal, rice/potato side dishes, baby diapers & wipes, deodorant, toothpaste , individual toothbrushes

Thanks for your continued support of our fellow Dublin families. Let’s fill those bare shelves.

Announcing St. Brigid's New Soccer Program!

soccer_goal.jpg

Soccer is starting at St. Brigid to provide a fun environment for our students to play soccer together.   The intention of this program is to allow students to play soccer with St. Brigid children over the summer while playing on other soccer teams, summer sports, and fall sports. The St. Brigid soccer program will encourage summer vacation and other family summer activities as we stick to our mission.

  • For incoming 4th-8th Graders, games will run July 22nd through August 25th.  Teams may choose to have practices starting July 1st
  • For little wolfhounds (incoming 1st through 3rd graders), we currently plan on hosting 2 weekend day 3v3 tournaments to get our youngest soccer players the opportunity to play with St. Brigid friends.

Signup on Doodlio or refer to the Summer/Fall Sports sign up included below.

We are currently looking for coaches and help with commissioner duties as we get this program up and running this summer.

If you are interested in coaching, helping with commissioner duties or if you have any questions, please reach out to Allison Heacock at allison.heacock@gmail.com or 614-519-2138.

SBAA Fall Sports Registration - Now Open!

St Brigid Athletic Association is happy to announce Fall Sports Registration is now open.  Please note strict deadlines for registration, there will be no extension of registration dates - so please register as soon as possible - some registration dates are sooner than normal due to new season start dates, new sports, and attempts to have teams formed on time and be able to have enough coaches. Please note - if you register by May 1, an Early Bird 10% discount will be applied on your registration fees.

New this year will be an attempt to have dedicated St. Brigid Soccer teams to participate in the diocese CYO program - notice the season starts in the summer so that it could be a sport that you also play while doing other fall sports very easily.  If you have specific questions about soccer, please reach out to Commissioner Allison Heacock or AD Bill Baumel asap.

Also new this year, the diocese CYO is offering Flag Football for grades 1-4, so please look into this option for those incoming 1st-4th graders for the fall.

We are also in search of a new Volleyball Commissioner - without finding one we may not be able to offer Volleyball in the fall.  We have been searching through existing coaches and parents, but we haven't found someone yet to take over this role.  Please reach out to info@gowolfhounds.com if you would be interested in giving back to the St. Brigid Volleyball program.

If you have any questions about a specific sport, please reach out to each respective commissioner/ contact.  If you have any problems with registrations, please reach out to shawn.steinbrunner@gmail.com for any registration problems.

Safe Haven Sunday

Last weekend our Diocese and Bishop Fernandes celebrated Safe Haven Sunday as we learned how to best equip our homes for online purity.

In a constantly connected digital world, Safe Haven Sunday helps you start the conversation on how to help your family live porn-free.

This year is supported by a step-by-step guide called Confident, outlining how to have those critical conversations with your children and family.

Porn is more accessible today than in any other period; exposure to it at a young age can cause a lifetime of struggle.

Confident will help us learn:

1. How porn impacts children

2. The stages of porn use

3. How to talk about it

4. And much more!

Learn how to download your free resource, Confident, here: https://learn.covenanteyes.com/confident-shs/.

Religious Education Family of Faith

April has been a very busy and joyous month for Religious Education! Much of the month our staff was working hard to get everything ready for Sacrament of Confirmation for our 8th graders. On Friday, April 12th, 158 Confirmand were Anointed with Sacred Chrism as they received the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It was a truly special and blessed event!

On April 15th Faith inFormation resumed classes after Easter break with Small Group Lessons. By understanding the Road to Emmaus story, our K-4 students learned that Jesus never leaves us; we are never alone. Our 5-8 students started the series "ALTARATION: The Mystery of the Mass Revealed" with Session 1. This series is specifically designed with teens in mind to help them understand and grow their appreciation for the awesome beauty and mystery of the Mass - one of the cornerstones of our faith.

We are very excited to celebrate Earth Day with our families this Monday, April 22nd. Together we will learn about caring for the Earth, as a part of God's Creation. We look forward to gathering with our families for our last Service Event of the year!

Registration for Religious Education for the 2024-25 school year will open at 10 AM on Wednesday, May 1.

Scam Emails & Texts

Unfortunately there have continued to be fraudulent emails and recently text messages sent from someone claiming to be Father Black asking for gift cards.

Please know that Father Black (or any clergy or staff members) will never contact you personally asking for gift cards or favors. If you receive a request like this do not engage and contact the parish if you are ever unsure if a communication is real.

CREW: Sign Up for Volunteer Opportunities

CREW (which stands for Catholics Ready, Eager and Willing) is a parish group providing low-commitment volunteer opportunities. Throughout the year, there are many times that we could use your hands to help make a difference here at St. Brigid of Kildare.

This is not a committee with members and monthly meetings. This is not a year-round commitment. CREW is just a list of parishioners who are ready, eager and willing to help around our campus and during special events.

Sign-up today to receive all the CREW requests via email but only commit to those that appeal to you and fit in your schedule! You’ll meet new people, feel connected to our parish family and be the first to know that we aren’t too shy to ask for help!

Play House Project Faith Blitz Build

Calling all 8th-12th grade students!

Join us for a day of service by volunteering for the St. Brigid Faith Blitz Build Team and support Habitat for Humanity in the process!

When?

Saturday, June 29 (all day) at One Church in Gahanna

What?

The Playhouse Project is a unique opportunity that allows Habitat for Humanity MidOhio to partner with sponsors (like us!) to build a playhouse for a local family, providing children with a safe place to play and imagine what home means to them!

We design the playhouse (paint colors, accessories, etc.) based on the interests of the child/ family assigned to us. We build the playhouse from a kit provided by Habitat for Humanity. There is no building experience necessary to participate.

This year, we will be participating in the Habitat for Humanity Faith Blitz, where Christians from all over Columbus will gather in one location on one day to build and design up to 10 playhouses!
