Spring is in the air and if you're planning to staff up this season, be sure to take advantage of one or more of the six upcoming recruiting events. You'll see information about each listed below. (Please note: An earlier version of this newsletter included an incorrect date for the Youth Job Fair in June). Also, manufacturers are invited to take part in the continuing video marketing project designed to showcase regional manufacturing businesses and help educate high school students, their parents, teachers and counselors about careers in the manufacturing industry.

OCALA METRO AREA TOPS STATE FOR FASTEST JOB GROWTH IN 'OTHER' INDUSTRY SECTOR; HOMOSASSA MSA POSTS 2.5% GROWTH RATE
Due to annual bench marking, both January and February employment reports were released in March. The January report indicated that the three-county region encountered the same post-holiday uptick in unemployment as the rest of the state, rising from 5.9% locally to an adjusted 6.4% But by February, the labor force had adjusted for the seasonal bobble, adding 1,421 new jobs over the month, and 2,043 over the year. At the same time, the jobless rate fell to 5.9 percent, with 11,391 out of work throughout the region, or 1,094 fewer than in January, and down 2,235 compared to a year ago.

MANUFACTURING TALENT PIPELINE VIDEO PROJECT SEEKS ADDITIONAL BUSINESSES
The video marketing pilot project begun in January is readying to produce the next round of videos. The project is designed to showcase today's manufacturing as well as reach out to tomorrow's workforce about career opportunities in the manufacturing industry. The goal is to help develop the talent pipeline needed to meet needs in the next few years.
We've teamed up with the Mid-Florida Regional Manufacturers Association and award-winning Digital Fury on the project, which is structured to take up very little time. CareerSource CLM is underwriting half the costs to produce your custom business promotion, which will be shown throughout Marion County Public Schools and made available to you for your own business use.
