A Message from Our Dean of Students | |
|
Dear Carondelet Community,
Spring is here! This is a busy and exciting time on campus marked by several celebratory and culminating events: our Battle of the Boldest spirit week, spring sports, and our spring Company production; as well as AP testing and finals. During this busy time, it’s important that our students stick to their school routine, prioritize promptness and daily school attendance, and proactively communicate with their teachers as deadlines and final assessments quickly approach.
As we head into the final stretch of the school year, I also wanted to take a moment to call out the recent national attention on the potential impact of smartphone and social media usage on teens' mental health. Here at Carondelet, we recognize the importance of fostering meaningful engagement with academic content and campus programming, as well as in-person interactions with faculty, classmates, and friends. To help support these goals, we want to share some of the measures we are taking on campus and to ask all families to partner with us in creating safe and healthy tech boundaries for our students.
During each class period, students are required to turn in their cell phones to a designated cell phone holder. This practice helps ensure that students are engaged with classroom content and actively participating in discussions and activities. By minimizing distractions, we aim to create a focused learning environment. In addition to classroom practices, we prioritize keeping all-school meetings, campus ministry events such as Mass and liturgy, and spiritual retreats cell phone-free. These gatherings provide valuable opportunities for reflection, connection, and spiritual growth, and we believe that limiting cell phone usage during these times enhances the overall experience for our students.
Keeping up with technology, social media platforms, and current trends can often feel overwhelming. Our students are often on the cutting edge, and it can be difficult to hold them accountable and ensure that they are making age-appropriate choices when we ourselves are not in the know. Common Sense Media and their partners are working to build a healthy, equitable, and empowering future for all kids in the digital age. They have dozens of helpful articles aimed for parents including guides to Snapchat and TikTok, as well as tips for the best privacy settings and how to help teens with balancing phones, screens, and sleep. I hope you find this resource helpful.
As always, thank you for your partnership!

Upcoming MAP Testing
We will be launching MAP testing for freshmen and sophomores. These tests have many benefits. They help assess a student’s ACT readiness and help prep for that type of exam. These tests also give us as a school a barometer for whether our teaching is transferring to actual skills connected to literacy and math.
Here is the schedule for MAP this spring:
- April 11 & 12: Math 6+ (Math Department)
- April 18 & 19: Language 6+ (Religious Studies Department)
- April 23 & 24: Reading 6+ (English Department)
Not all students are as excited about the tests as we are as a school, so your partnership in helping them see the value is greatly appreciated!

2024-25 Parking Permit Update
Parking permit requests will go live on our website the week of April 15. Permits are not given on a first come, first serve basis and all applications submitted before the deadline will be considered. Unfortunately, our parking lot does not accommodate all of our driving students. Priority is given to carpooling seniors, followed by single-rider seniors, carpooling juniors, and single-rider juniors. Students must have a valid driver’s license in order to obtain a permit.
