OUR MISSION:

St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.

We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear St. Rita Parents and Guardians,

Happy Easter! The celebration of Our Lord’s Resurrection continues in the Church for eight days, called the Octave of Easter. Each day of the Octave is ranked as a Solemnity in the Church’s liturgical calendar. The Octave of Easter ends on the Second Sunday of Easter, the Sunday of Divine Mercy. In the Jubilee Year 2000, at the Mass in which he canonized the humble religious Sister Faustina Kowalska, Blessed John Paul II declared that from then on throughout the Church the Second Sunday of Easter would also be called the Sunday of Divine Mercy. This Sunday, April 7 at 3:00 P.M., please join in the devotions and celebration to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday at St. Rita Church. We hope you will join us to proclaim the saving power of God’s “merciful love”.

There is a great deal of excitement surrounding the solar eclipse occurring this Monday, April 8, 2024. We want to make sure that our solar eclipse experience is as safe as it can be for each and every student. This is especially important given that the process will start at 2:15 p.m. and conclude by 4:30 p.m. This timeframe includes our dismissal time which poses a challenge for us. The school has purchased the specialized eye protection for all students and staff. These specialized glasses will be sent home with each child on Monday. As part of their instruction on the solar eclipse, our teachers will be reviewing safety protocol when viewing the eclipse. We need your partnership, as well. Please review the linked information from the CT State Department of Education which has a wealth of information about the solar eclipse and how to keep your child safe.

I wanted to share an update with the school community regarding the various projects we are undertaking during this school year. We are moving forward over April vacation with replacing the two air conditioning units which failed in September. Over the past few years we have been replacing units as needed and will continue to do so. The vacant house which was purchased last fall will be torn down once all the utilities have been shut off and the permit process is completed. We are continuing to receive bids for the door replacement project. This has been a rather arduous endeavor as many companies have been contacted but have not followed through with a bid. We will keep you informed as we work to complete these projects over the next few months.

Spring break is right around the corner. School will be closed the week of April 15. Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Best wishes for a Blessed Easter season, Alleluia!

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Nurse's Corner

Hamden Public Schools and St. Rita School will now be following the new respiratory virus guidelines set forth by the CDC and our local health department.

COVID will now fall into the same category as the flu and RSV as a respiratory virus.

If your child develops symptoms of a respiratory virus (cough, fever, runny nose , congestion, fatigue), they should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication and their symptoms are improving. They can return to school and we would encourage the use of a mask for 5 days.

Reminder:

Required physicals for PreK , Kindergarten and Grade 7:

Please remember to send in your child's physical if they are entering grade 7, PreK, and/or Kindergarten .These are required for entry into school in August.

Medication reminder: as allergy season approaches:

Please do not send medication into school with your child. This includes any Over The Counter medication (Advil, Tylenol, Midol, cold medicine, allergy medicine, etc). Medication that needs to be taken during school hours must be brought into school by an adult along with a medication order from the physician.

If you wish to have cough drops available to your child please send them into school with a note. The nurse will keep them in her office and administer them to your child as needed.

Thank you for your cooperation

Please pray for Ms. Susan Gill (sister of Ms. Lori Gill), Mr. John DiPaola (grandfather of John and Juliana), and Mrs. Mary Daley (grandmother of Lillian Daley), and all the deceased members of our

St. Rita Community.
