Doing Good Feels Great
April is Volunteers Month and April 5th is Paraprofessional Day. This is the time to consider all our teachers’ aides and additional persons who help out kids in the classroom. One particular person of note is Mike Means, a high school senior working as an aide in the Early Childhood Center. Teachers have commented how he’s made a noticeable difference for one kindergartener in particular, Jamal Myers. They’ve been working on reading skills and classroom concentration. Mike is new to this role and is doing this as part of the high school apprenticeship program. High School Career Connections Teacher, Joe Sausele, introduced him to the ECC as an apprenticeship possibility.

|
“At first, I was nervous, but getting to know Jamal has been fun, and I really enjoy helping him. I think some one-on-one attention really makes a difference for Jamal,” stated Mike. This is his first semester as an apprentice.
Jamal says he’s making good progress and that Mr. Mike really helps him.
Thanks for inspiring us, Mike and Jamal!

Esports Team Wins Major National Competition
Congratulations go out to the national champions of the annual Rube Goldberg Minecraft challenge, Logan Sharp, Amber Curole, and Satina Miller! They were tasked with building a lunch in a Rube Goldberg style. They decided to make a Bento Box. Their video creation prevailed over hundreds of other entries across the United States. The process involved a lot of work outside of school, consultation with their physics teacher, Dr. Ryan Massey, and a sprint to the finish to record commentary for their build. They will get their build entered into the National Rube Goldberg competition in April and won $200 for the MRH Esports team. You can see their build here.
Dr. Curtis Graham, Middle School computer science teacher and Esports coach, said, "Thank you so much to the teachers who let them come work on it with me, our IT crew for supporting us, Dr. Massey for some physics advice, and our students for their dedication and hard work. I'm proud of you."
The competition was sponsored by the North American Scholastic Esports Federation.
