May is Mary’s month! As we honor our earthly mothers, we also honor our heavenly Mother. And during May, throughout the Catholic world, special devotions honor the Virgin Mary. “May Crowning” is a traditional Catholic ritual that occurs in the month of May, and it recognizes Mary as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. Since medieval times, there has been a correlation between Mary and the month of May. May is considered the season of the beginning of new life. “May Crowning” marks a new spiritual season. Our Mary, Queen of heaven and earth, lifted us right out of the last long, cold days of winter and firmly planted our hearts in the warm and promising soil of spring.

We will hold our own May Crowning on May 3, 2024, at 2:00 pm, in Church. Students may bring a flower to school to place in a vase in their classroom. (You may pick it from your garden or bought) Each classroom will have a vase of flowers. The vases will be placed around Mary. We will start with a procession of one student from each class carrying vases and praying together, and a wreath of flowers will be placed on the statue of Mary. (The act of crowning is rooted in the view of Mary as the Queen of Heaven.) Events like this remind us to be grateful for the gift of one another, as well as the gift of faith we are able to share at St. Peter Catholic School.

FREE MEAL DAY

On April 30th, St. Peter School is spreading warmth and generosity by designating it as a free meal day for all students. On this special occasion, every student at St. Peter School is invited to savor a delicious FREE school lunch without any charge. The school aims to foster a sense of community and inclusivity by providing this complimentary meal, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to enjoy a nutritious lunch without the burden of cost. It is a thoughtful gesture that not only supports the students, but also reinforces the spirit of unity and care within the school community. **This does not include parents participating in the Parent Lunch that day. Parent lunch is $3.75**

St. Peter School is delighted to announce a series of Parent Lunch Days, providing a wonderful opportunity for parents to share a meal with their children and experience the vibrant school atmosphere. On March 26th (A-E), April 16th (F-K), April 30th (L-R), and May 7th (S-Z), parents are invited to join their child/ren for lunch. A nominal Parent Lunch Charge of $3.75, payable in cash, applies to cover the cost of the meal. To ensure a smooth experience, parents are kindly requested not to bring fast food. Upon arrival, please check in at the office, where you will be directed to the cafeteria. To guarantee your spot and help with planning, we encourage parents to reserve their lunch by emailing dschrimpf@stpeterjc.org. Meet Our Staff

My name is Liz Vanderfeltz and I am the 7th-8th grade social studies and 7th-grade science teacher. I also have an 8th-grade homeroom. This is my 11th year teaching at St. Peter and 13th in education. Throughout my career, I’ve taught many subjects including; World History, American History, Civics, Geography, Life Science, Health, and Literature.

I graduated from St Peter Catholic School and Helias Catholic High School. I have a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers). I also earned a Master’s degree in Teaching from Columbia College.

My husband, Zeke, and I were married in December 2015. We have two sons, Teddy (6) and Frankie (2), and a very spoiled yellow Labrador named Morrison. We are members of St. Peter Parish.

I teach advanced tap dance classes at Dancers’ Alley in my free time and enjoy gardening, kayaking, and hiking with my family. On the top of my bucket list is to visit all of the parks, sites, memorials, etc. managed by the National Park Service, so in the summer you can find me road tripping across the country!
