MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good he has done for me? The cup of salvation I will take up, and I will call upon the name of the Lord. My vows to the Lord I will fulfill in the presence of all his people. (Ps 116:12-14)
These words of psalm 116 express the powerful emotions of gratitude, wonder, amazement, and joy I experience as I celebrate with you my 30th ordination anniversary. I am grateful that the Lord called me to serve Him as a priest for the past 30 years. At this time, I “remember the wonders the Lord has done “in and through me, even though I am an ordinary human being with my own brokenness and rough edges.
The experience of being a priest is to have a front row seat on God’s powerful goodness in the world, especially during difficulty. If I had a thousand lives, I would live every one as a priest.
When you watch a movie, they run the credits at the beginning or at the end of a movie. I consider this an appropriate time to run the credits of my life:- the strong faith of my mother from whom I learned the meaning of the Eucharist; a pastor who turned my First Holy Communion Day in the midst of poverty to a profound experience and vocation story; family members, friends, and teachers who stood by me; missionary catechists and people in the mission who helped me to discover joy in the midst of scarcity; hard working women of faith who shared their time, talent, inputs, and treasure without expecting anything in return, not even recognition; staff members, volunteers, and ministers who worked tirelessly with me; members of communities that become my brother, sister, mother, dad, and family in new places; the Cursillo Community that taught me what it means to be a true Christian community; parishioners from different parishes (23 years in San Jose diocese) who added flavor, boost, spirituality, and spice to my ministry; and the list goes on.
At this time, I would like to rewrite the psalm 23:5 “You prepare a table for me with the help of many living saints and angels amidst whom I am blessed to live and my cup overflows.”
With gratitude,
Fr. Saj
