April 2024

Dear Friends -

Although I’ve been working at Northshire since 2013, my first time attending our annual Booktopia festival in Manchester didn’t come until 2022. I’d heard about it from colleagues of course - it’s a massive labor of love and also one of the most joyously bookish weekends of our calendar year.

That first year I was just blown away by the incredible community that has developed around this annual event.

I’m really excited about this year’s lineup of festival authors. So far, I’ve read three of the nine featured books (and loved them all!) - and bookstore colleagues have read and enjoyed the rest.

This year we’ve also added a special Sunday afternoon capstone with Chris Bohjalian, to celebrate his new book The Princess of Las Vegas. You can buy a ticket that includes just that event, or join us for longer that weekend to get to hear from the rest of the Booktopia authors.

As Nicole Ihasz, one of Northshire’s owners recently said, “I had so much fun at Booktopia last year, and I can't wait to welcome this year's amazing group of readers and writers back to the store! There are so many wonderful books this year, including Sipsworth by Simon Van Booy, which stole my heart.”

We hope you'll register to join us in Manchester on April 26-28!

Best wishes,

Rachel, Director of Events

Featured Release

An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s

by Doris Kearns Goodwin

An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s by Doris Kearns Goodwin, one of America’s most beloved historians, artfully weaves together biography, memoir, and history. She takes you along on the emotional journey she and her husband, Richard (Dick) Goodwin embarked upon in the last years of his life.

"The ideals, tumult, and tragedy of 1960s America spring to life in this authentic first-hand account. Richard Goodwin worked in the highest echelons of government through the decade, and near the end of his life literally unpacked his memories to give his wife the ingredients to craft this engrossing personal and political history." — Mike Hare

Save the date! Northshire is proud to present an afternoon with Doris Kearns Goodwin on Sunday June 2nd, at Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs. Tickets will include a copy of An Unfinished Love Story, and will be available soon.

The Ministry of Time

by Kaliane Bradley

A time travel romance, a spy thriller, and an ingenious exploration of the nature of power and the potential for love to change it all: Welcome to The Ministry of Time, the exhilarating debut novel by Kaliane Bradley.

"You probably didn't realize you're desperate for a time travel novel about a polar explorer from the Victorian era acclimating to the near future - but I promise, you need this book. An infectiously fun story marries perfectly with a novel that grapples seriously with big ideas - colonialism, racism, and climate change. I enjoyed reading this so much, and I'll be thinking about it for a very long time to come." — Rachel Person
