April 2024 Newsletter

Dear Library Friend,

Last month, as we changed seasons almost daily (or hourly), we did not let the weather stop us from having a wonderful March at Pope Memorial Library. In addition to a lot of new books on the shelves, our three active book groups met, we enjoyed the art exhibition by Fabiana Walsh, and we came together to knit, craft, and discuss cooking. We also held some fun special events, including a Jigsaw Puzzle Competition, an Easter Egg Hunt, and an Art Reception.

At Pope Memorial Library, we truly are more than books!

On March 5th, we held our annual meeting. Open to the public, the meeting was well attended, and we welcomed our new board members, Sue Wilcox and Molly Haydock. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank outgoing board members Kathy Bergeron and Neill Osgood for their commitment to the library over the years.

Our Community Partnerships

We could not do all we do for the MWV community without the wonderful support we receive from local businesses and organizations. Thank you....

In the next few weeks you will be receiving our Spring Appeal Letter. With so many wonderful things happening at the library, we have included a Library Update on the back of the letter. We hope you enjoy seeing our progress, made possible by library friends like you!

Have a great month, and we hope to see you soon and often.

Team Jigsaw Puzzle Competition

On March 2, we held our popular puzzle competition, which is a great event for the whole family. Our repeat winners finished in 50 minutes. We will hold the event again on Saturday, May 4th, at 1:00 pm.

Dine to Donate at Chef's Bistro

On March 7, Chef's Bistro in the heart of North Conway hosted our Dine to Donate event. We were delighted to welcome old library friends and make new ones as diners enjoyed fresh and delicious local eats in the warm and friendly atmosphere. As a fundraiser, a portion of the evening's sales were generously donated by Chef's Bistro to the Library.

Easter Egg Hunt

On March 25, we had a lot of fun as our egg hunters searched for candy-filled eggs throughout the building. The third annual library egg hunt, this great family event brought together approximately 50 children and was generously sponsored by MWV Kiwanis.

Spring Basket Raffle

Congratulations to Sarah Murphy, who won the spring basket raffle! Tickets for the basket were available for sale at the library, and the winner was drawn at the library egg hunt. Thank you again, Bavarian Chocolate Haus, for the special treat.

Coming to the Shelves

In March 2024 the Library added:

  • 18 new children’s books
  • 8 new DVDs
  • 8 new large print books
  • 50 new fiction books  (36 of them mysteries)
  • 17 new nonfiction books
  • 3 new young adult books

If you are wondering what's coming to shelves next, you can now see what's on order by visiting the website and looking for "COMING soon to shelves" on the left side of the homepage. Still not seeing that book you're hoping for? Don't forget our Adopt an Author program. If you'd like to support the growth of a collection rather than a specific author, let's talk.

If you have any used books, CDs, or DVDs (especially fiction books), please consider donating them to our lobby and Labor Day weekend Gigantic book sale.
