May portends the first of several walking tours for foodies with returning instructor Renee Cohen. Her first outing this spring is to Chinatown where students will taste their way from one culinary delight to another. Culinary Walking Tour: Chinatown (Course 12494) meets on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, and will include stops for dumplings, noodles, bubble tea, and more.

In June, Cohen ventures into the hip Williamsburg section of Brooklyn for specialty cheeses, beer, pizza, hot sauces, and other tasty treats. Culinary Walking Tour: Williamsburg (Course 12495) is on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Then on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Cohen teaks a break from the heat at Industry City, a six million square foot 35 acre campus along the waterfront in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. Culinary Walking Tour: Industry City (Course 12496) combs through this one-stop ecosystem for experiences and one of the best new destinations for exciting eateries, craft beer, and food start-ups.

Her final tour of the term is Culinary Walking Tour: Little Arabia and Brooklyn Heights (Course 12497) on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Explore this fascinating section of Brooklyn Heights while sampling amazing Middle Eastern delicacies such as mezze, spinach pie, and baklava. Tour culminates with lunch at a restaurant that features a pita-making demonstration.

Cohen is also introducing a new cooking series for SAS, Greenmarket to Grill. Each class provides a different menu for students to prepare in hands-on lessons before sitting down for an enjoyable feast when the grilling is done. The Wednesday, May 8, 2024, session of Greenmarket to Grill (Course 12568) serves up recipes for various salads and dishes featuring grilled halloumi, salmon, chipotle-maple chicken, and bananas. On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Greenmarket to Grill (Course 12569) incorporates grilled watermelon, chicken kabobs, za’atar lavash bread, flank steak, and dessert pizza, into multiple mouth-watering meals. Then on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Cohen grills portobello mushrooms, salmon, sliders, and shrimp in her final Greenmarket to Grill (Course 12570) installment of the season.

Chef Rajni Menon is also back at SAS for more classes in her popular cooking series, Aaharam, Indian Inspired Dishes. As before, each session includes instructions and recipes for making delectable meals before students enjoy the fruits of their labor. Menus do not repeat and can all be adjusted to be gluten free and/or vegan.

In Aaharam, Indian Inspired Dishes (Course 12595) on Friday, May 31, 2024, learn to make moong dal dosa and various chutneys. Aaharam, Indian Inspired Dishes (Course 12596) on Tuesday, June 28, 2024, students will make and eat pathiri and vegetable korma.
