New Book Alert: IDDSI Cookbook
|
|
Congratulations to Nina Cheng, the National Taiwan University Hospital and the Taiwanese IDDSI Reference Group, who have worked together to write and publish a cookbook on the IDDSI Framework. A press conference was held on March 29, and books and e-book will be available in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States.
This pioneering book introduces the readers to dysphagia by addressing its causes and symptoms found in different diseases and conditions.
A concise description of IDDSI framework can be found within this book. The recipes are organized as main courses, side dishes and desserts. The preparation of each dish is given for different IDDSI levels. Every recipe is illustrated with vivid pictures in full color.
All in all, this exceptional cookbook for dysphagia diet is a must-have reference book and an efficient tool for healthcare professionals, caregivers and anyone who is interested in understanding swallowing and its disorders.
The book is available in the following bookstores found here.

Canada: By now you’ve all heard that Canada is moving towards single IDDSI labeling and that having one national (and international) language to talk about dysphagia is best practice for clients, caregivers and care programs/facilities.
Why this is important:
- Using IDDSI language breaks down communication barriers for clients, caregivers, and staff when it comes to mealtime safety and ease of food preparation.
-
Beyond safety, clients and clinicians know it makes a difference in the quality of life of individuals: watch a quick video here.
What you may want to consider:
- Program leaders may want to set aside professional development time and funding to support their staff in this nation-wide transition.
What resources can help:
-
In September 2022, the Canadian IDDSI Reference Group (CIRG) will offer a 12-month virtual mentorship program called “Mentoring Moments” that is intended to provide monthly support and guidance to IDDSI Champions wishing to move forward with Phase 1 of an IDDSI transition.
If this mentorship program interests you, watch for more information in future IDDSI “CAN DO” newsletters. To see previous CAN-DO newsletters, visit the Canada IDDSI Reference Group page here.

Croatia: Croatia is happy to become a part of IDDSI family - we are currently working on forming a volunteer group representing diverse stakeholders including speech-language pathologists, nutritionists/dietitians and other health care professionals, food technologists, chefs, patients with feeding and swallowing disorders as well as their caregivers. We are looking forward to implement IDDSI in our country. If you are interested in joining, contact us.

Israel: A prize for one of three best posters was awarded to Assuta Ashdod General Hospital for their implementation of the IDDSI framework. The prize was given at the 'ATID-Israeli Dietetic Association' annual conference held in Tel-Aviv at the end of March 2022. Following the Israeli Ministry of Health's committee's adoption of the IDDSI terminology, Assuta Ashdod was chosen to serve as a model for the implementation the IDDSI framework in a general hospital. By May 2023 the Ministry of Health mandates that all health care settings in Israel will adopt the IDDSI terminology. See the poster here, and visit the Israel IRG page here.
