Thanks to those of you who attended the Small-Group Evaluation Meetings on March 14. I have heard some very positive feedback about the meetings and it seems that they were quite productive. Change is coming thanks to your input.
We hope to see many of you at the April 11 Regular Meeting at Mid Pacific Country Club. We will be presenting the 2018-2019 Budget for your review, voting on our Slate of Candidates for the 2018-2019 Board of Directors and hearing from a special speaker. Your attendance is very important.
As our fiscal year is winding down, keep in mind that our Thrift Shop is a year-round operation. Our programs rely on the funds generated there. If you can spare two or three hours a week to help out either upstairs or downstairs we would greatly appreciate it. If you want to get involved with any of our programs, your help would certainly be welcome. Our program chairs would be happy to have you on their committees. April is a perfect time to "spring' into action.

Myrtle Ching-Rappa - She heard about our Operation Wildlife Program which educates 4th graders about preserving the environment for future generations. She and her husband were in the education environment at the University of Hawaii. She recently retired a few years ago as the Director of Student Affairs after 30+ years of government service. Now, she is a doting grandmother, avid Mah Jong player and a highly skilled crafter. She can be reached at

Shelley Carroll recently returned to Hawaii and would like to volunteer her time to a worthy cause. She is a nurse practitioner and worked at Castle Hospital in the past. It won't be long before she'll be working again but will still be able to spare time to work downstairs in the Thrift Shop. Meeting for April 2018
Assistance League of Hawaii's Regular Meeting on will be held on April 11 at the Mid-Pacific Country Club in Kailua.
Ronnie Wassil
is our member host to the club. The meeting will begin at 10.30 AM. We will have a salad buffet for
$22.00.
Voting on our Slate of Candidates for the 2018-2019 Board of Directors and a presentation of the 2018-2019 budget for will be on the agenda in addition to having a special speaker. The candidate slate is posted below this article.

Save the date - May 19th
for the
Visitor Industry Charity Walk!
It is the only walk where you can gain weight! Plan to participate by walking, by sponsoring a member who is walking, or by donating. Last year we received $1,000 for Operation School Bell on Oahu. In other years we have received as much as $5,000. Participation gives us points for receiving funds, so plan to participate. The walk will take place at Ala Moana Beach Park, McCoy Pavilion starting at 7:00 a.m. Details will be available at the April 11 meeting.
Also, please keep saving your change. All those coins add up.

April will be a busy month for the women of Operation Wildlife with the remaining three schools: April 16 at
Puuhale, 41
students; April 23 at Jefferson, 70 students; April 25 at Mae'mae' 110 students.
There is a possibility of two other schools that are trying to fit us into their schedules. The Operation Wildlife group welcomes member volunteers Carol Jones, Leilani Alcover and Myrtle Ching-Rappa, who are excited to
be joining us.
They will be able to experience the presentations at any one
of these schools.
Of interest, on the island of Maui between Kihei and Ma'alaia, is the Kea'lia Pond, a National Wildlife Refuge, U. S. Department of Interior, wetlands with natural surroundings and trails and home to Hawaiian endangered birds.

If you looked at the April calendar for downstairs workers in the Thrift Shop, you surely noticed several "HELPS".
Please help fill these blanks if you possibly can.
Our longtime member
Eileen Urquhart
has donated many of her possessions to Assistance League of Hawaii.
It is her wish that the proceeds from the sale of her items be used for the Mortgage Reduction Fund for our Thrift Shop building.
To that end, price tags on all donations from Eileen will be marked with a
green slash.
Cashiers will be ringing up these items on a special key at the cash register.
Liz Benton
is in charge of dealing with the Trust and is arranging for the sale of many large items through McClain's Auction. All other items will be sold at the Thrift Shop. Several of our members have spent many hours sorting and organizing her things. Thanks to all who have been working to get the apartment in order.
Due to failing health Eileen now resides on the second floor of Arcadia. We at Assistance League of Hawaii greatly appreciate her thoughtful donations.
The homeless situation in Pa'awa Park continues to be a problem. The police are aware of the situation and are doing as much as they can.
