ANNOUNCEMENTS
Following up on the February newsletter, the Department would like to share with you an update on the transition of our Illinois Energy Now (IEN) Programs.
As a reminder, as a result of recent legislation, the Department will be handing off, to the electric and gas utilities, the administration of energy efficiency programs for the public sector, low income customers, and market transformation.
This hand off will be effective June 1, 2017
.
Please note, the Department will continue to pay out existing projects and wrap up programs after May 31
st
, but we will not be accepting applications for any new projects after that date. We encourage our customers to reach out to your utilities, establish a relationship with them, and begin to take advantage of their program offerings for your future projects. They are still determining what programs they will be offering during the June to December bridge period. Their full program offerings will be available January 1, 2018.

Please also note, that there are still two months left in this IEN program year, and the Department has a significant amount of funding left in many utility territories. We strongly encourage you to
apply now for incentives for any projects that can be completed on or before May 31, 2017
. The deadline for new Standard and Custom applications has been extended until April 14, 2017.
Finally, thank you to all of our customers. Over the years, your passion, drive, and creativity have been key to helping the State reach its energy savings and economic development goals. Thank you also to our program partners and trade allies, who have assisted the Department in innumerable ways and helped to provide some of the most robust energy efficiency programs in the nation. Collectively we have all demonstrated the tremendous economic and environmental benefits that energy efficiency can have in Illinois. It has truly been a pleasure working with all of you, and the Department looks forward to continuing to partner with you in new ways in the future.

Illinois' STEP Program Surpasses 550-Buildings Served
 The Savings Through Efficient Products (STEP) program managed by MEEA has been working hard to target the difficult-to-reach public entities within the State and provide them with high-quality energy efficiency products. STEP encourages public sector facilities to save energy by providing measures such as occupancy sensors, LED exit signs, LED lamps and more at no cost to the customer. So far the program has completed or scheduled over 550 engineer-led facility walkthroughs and expects to complete more before the program year ends. The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus Public Sector Energy Efficiency Program
Funding is still available in the MMC region! Public agencies are invited to
submit
proposals for projects that reduce demand for natural gas through
Nicor, Peoples Gas and North Shore service territories. Gas-saving projects include boiler and chiller replacements, HVAC system tune-ups, destratification fans, steam trap replacement, boiler and steam pipe insulation, pool heater upgrades, geothermal, kitchen equipment upgrades (ovens, cookers, exhaust hoods, washing equipment), hot water aerators and low-flow showerheads. Grant reimbursements can be up to $300,000 per facility location. Project support and technical assistance is free and provided by 360 Energy Group.
Note: Applications will be accepted until
April 14, 2017

Municipal-Owned Street Lighting Incentives
 Electricity costs can account for a considerable portion of a municipality's budget. Upgrading street lights to LEDs is an easy and cost effective way for municipalities to reduce their electricity costs. For those municipalities that own street lights (as opposed to leasing), incentives are available for street light LED upgrade projects. The incentive of $0.30 per kWh saved lowers the cost of these capital improvements and shortens the payback period, making street light retrofit projects a smart investment.
Elevate Energy provides free technical assistance with the project planning and incentive application processes. To be eligible for the incentive, replacement LED lights must be certified by the DesignLights Consortium and projects must be completed by May 31, 2017. For more information, read the

Elevate Energy's Park District Lighting program provides IL ENERGY NOW funding and free technical and application assistance to park districts in ComEd's service territory for indoor and outdoor lighting projects. Upcoming Building Science Training Series Courses
The building science training series (BSTS) draws upon local and regional experts to impart specific technical skills to local contractors. The courses address topics that have been identified as relevant for Illinois contractors in order to prepare them for quality whole-home energy upgrade work and participation in IHP.
