The roll-out event, held last week, was a significant milestone, showcasing the city's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and embracing innovative technology for public transportation. Carol Henderson, the Deputy Executive Director for Intergovernmental and Outreach at the Broward MPO, was there to support this landmark occasion. Her participation underscores the importance of collaboration between governmental bodies in achieving sustainable urban development goals.

Broward MPO Transportation Academy Wraps Up Another Successful Session | |
The Transportation Academy has successfully concluded its third session, focusing on federal and state funding intricacies, opportunities, and restrictions. Participants enjoyed presentations by Todd Brauer from the Whitehouse Group, Peter Gies from the Broward MPO and Lowell Clary from Clary Consulting Company. Attendees posed insightful questions and contributed to engaging discussions on the nuances of funding, exploring trade-offs, program allocations, and project financing. The group also embraced interactive activities such as Financial Feud, adapted from Family Feud, and The Funding Games, where players negotiated and compromised to secure project funding. Broward MPO Case Study

The Broward MPO’s Transportation Planning Equity Assessment was developed in 2018 to more consistently and comprehensively evaluate the MPO’s plans and programs in conjunction with Federal Environmental Justice and Title VI regulations. The Assessment, now considered a best practice, has been showcased at many state and national conferences and incorporated into most of the MPO’s plans, programs, and public outreach efforts. The Assessment is regularly updated using the latest data from the Census Bureau and a new, public-friendly webpage has been developed in an effort to help get the word out. After participating in a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) equity survey and subsequent interviews to discuss the Assessment and the role it plays in addressing equity, it was determined that the MPO and its Assessment would be featured as a case study in an FHWA/USDOT publication titled “Using GIS to Advance Transportation Equity and Address Disadvantages.” This document has since been published and is available here. We are thrilled by this opportunity to shine a spotlight on the Assessment and share it with a wider audience.
