Enhancing education through the appropriate use of technologies for all educators in New York State.

April 12, 2024

CEO3 (ok, 4!)

  • Fresh back from Miami from the 2024 Annual COSN Conference and I cannot say how proud I am to be representing NYSCATE with this incredible crew to the right! The Advocacy Auction is always a huge event for COSN and this year there was an EdTech Olympics where the State Chapters compete. As if there was any doubt - NYSCATE WON! Tennessee brought the shirts, Texas brought the cowboy hats, but they were no match for these NYSCATE members!

  • Always fun catching up with Keith Krueger, COSN CEO! Needless to say, there was a huge NY presence at the event this year, and if you could not attend, our upcoming CTO clinic will take place in Cortland in May - so sign up today - no cost for institutional members.

  • The entire national edtech community was present including leadership from ISTE/ASCD, SETDA, FETC, TETA, MACUL, etc. There is always a buzz around AI, but leadership, policy and standards were constant buzzwords as we move forward with Cybersecurity efforts, Student Data Privacy Standards and new national frameworks as well.

  • One of the highlights of my conference experience were the discussions that took place during the Women in Technology breakfast. Katie Harmon and Laurel Chiesa agreed that this is something we want to bring to NYSCATE in November.

Aspiring CTO Academy Capstone Projects

The NYSCATE cohort of the Aspring CTO Academy was in full force! We had candidates and thought leaders from across the state and three of our members presented their capstone projects as you can see below. Each of them did an amazing job in their unique presentation styles with Josh Hough, from SCRIC presenting on Cybersecurity Education at Sherburne Earlville CSD, Jake Resnick from BT BOCES presenting on Device Lifecycles and Heidi Van Woert from GST BOCES presenting her experiences on bringing an 800 person regional conference to Corning Painted Post High School last month. So proud of this group!!

And a few more pics to make sure everyone is included....and what is a COSN Conference without Kieran O'Connor?! A great time was had by all, and now we are all tasked with taking what we have learned, improve on it and bring it back to NY for our educators and students!
