This Weekly Update by the Illinois School and Campus Safety Program shares information on the upcoming ILSROA Conference, provides a final opportunity to register for the Effective Communication Principles class, and promotes the upcoming Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment™, Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations, and Campus Threat Assessment and Management classes.

2024 ILSROA School Safety Conference June 19-21 in Normal

The 2024 ILSROA School Safety Conference is being held June 19-21st in Normal, IL. The registration fee for the 3-day conference is $240, which includes all training materials, several meals, and a 1-year ILSROA membership. For school administrators and school district personnel, there is a 1-day pass for June 19th for $100, which includes all training for June 19th and lunch. Additionally, this year there is also a special, free pre-conference 8-hour session of Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations the day before the Conference begins (this is an optional add-on session being held at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois).

Effective Communication Principles Before, During, and After Critical Incidents in Fairview Heights on April 25th

This is the last chance to register for the Effective Communication Principles Before, During, and After Critical Incidents class on April 25th in Fairview Heights, IL.

This training provides attendees comprehensive education on the subject of communications. Throughout the training, attendees will learn about the importance of building relationships with the media and the community through routine communications. The training will also provide guidance on how to prepare for a crisis communications event and what to do should that day happen. Finally, instruction will wrap up with discussion on how to effectively communicate after a critical incident.

Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations in Oglesby April 25-26th

There's still time to register for the Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations class on April 25-26, 2024, in Oglesby, IL. Class objectives include:

• Why it is important NOT to disregard information given to LEO or school officials.
• What the term "Leakage" means and how we can interpret the information.
• Learn free and open source online investigative tools into social networks and App generated phone numbers.
• Learn to identify and collect cyber evidence to identify suspects.
• Learn the three-step process in investigating internet crimes.
• Learn the importance of Preservation, Exigent Circumstances, and Search Warrants.
• Learn how to obtain IP's, screen names, screen captures, and email headers.
• State laws: Terrorist Threat, Falsely Making a Terrorist Threat, Swatting, and Causing a Catastrophe.
• Suspect search warrant, arrest, interrogation, and mental health evaluation.

Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment™
April 29th in Maywood

There's still time to register for the Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment™ class on April 29th being held in Maywood, IL.

BDTA™ integrates Safer Schools Together’s Digital Threat Assessment® training and best practice from the National Threat Assessment Center’s Behavioral Threat Assessment model. BDTA™ includes a 3-step response plan developed to help S/TA teams ensure all worrisome, concerning, and threat-related behaviors are proactively responded to, reducing the potential of violence within your community. The training will examine techniques for identifying and assessing individuals who engage in behaviors consistent with a threat and provide S/TA teams with the tools to ensure a thorough data collection process. Additionally, the training will provide an overview of the assessment process, including best practices for interviewing and progress monitoring. Participants will obtain the tools vital for proactively and effectively identifying, assessing, and responding to worrisome and/or threat-related behavior through a BDTA™ management lens.

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program, in partnership with Safer Schools Together, is pleased to announce an upcoming session of Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment™ on May 8th being held in Springfield, IL.

Upcoming Session of Campus Threat Assessment and Management June 10-11 in Urbana

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce a session of the Campus Threat Assessment and Management class will be held June 10-11, 2024, in Urbana, IL. This two-day workshop featuring Gene Deisinger, Ph.D will help participants to better understand the dynamics of targeted violence and to develop and enhance strategies for early identification, assessment, and intervention with concerning situations.
