After the success of our first Youth Arts Ed Council and rave youth reviews from the Arts Ed Summit; Arts Ed NJ is now seeking 21 dedicated NJ high school students (incoming 9th grade through 12th grade) with a passion for the arts to join a statewide Youth Arts Education Council with the mission of highlighting youth voices to advance arts education in New Jersey.
As a council member, you will attend weekly virtual meetings from July 10 – August 21 and bi-monthly from September – January. You will learn about advocacy and explore the many ways in which to advocate for arts education in your school and local community, careers in arts, marketing and more and actively contribute to the planning, promotion and execution of a virtual Youth Arts Education Summit in January 2025.
Location: Meetings conducted remotely in conjunction with Arts Ed NJ staff via Zoom.
Compensation: $700 stipend
Commitment Period: July 2024 - January 2025.
Committee Meeting Schedule: Weekly, 1.5 hours per session, beginning July 10, 2024.
Meeting Dates: July 10, 17, 24, 31 - August: 7, 14, 21 - September - 18, 25 - October: 9, 23 - November: 6, 13 - December: 4, 11 - January: 8,15
Meeting times: 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Virtual Event: Saturday, January 25, 2025 - Time TBD

Responsibilities:
1. Committee Meetings:
- Attend weekly committee meetings, held remotely, for 1.5 hours each session.
- Collaborate with fellow youth council members and Arts Ed NJ staff in planning and organizing a virtual Youth Arts Education Summit.
- Participate in discussions around planning the youth arts education summit
- Youth outreach - spread the word about the importance of arts education and the youth event via social media and direct outreach
2. Youth Arts Education Summits:
- Actively contribute to the planning, promoting and execution of virtual youth-led arts education summit in January 2025 via Zoom.
3. Qualifications:

Currently be enrolled in a NJ high school (incoming 9th grade through 12th grade) and actively participating in arts courses (visual arts, music, dance, theater, media arts, literary arts, speech and debate, multidisciplinary arts).
- Passionate about the arts, arts education and its impact on student achievement.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to engage with, listen to, and learn from high school students, and a broad range of audiences.
- Ability to communicate clearly through written and verbal forms.
- Fluency in languages in addition to English is a plus but not mandatory.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task.
- Ability to manage projects from start to finish and meet deadlines appropriately.
- Ability to use social media platforms (Tic Tok and Instagram)
- If under 18, must have parent permission
