Another Week, Another Two Shipments!

This week, we, once again, sent two shipments in one day!

Warehouse one was full of supplies ready to go to Maryland. Similarly, warehouse three and the loading dock were a maze of pallets, boxes, and loose items, waiting to be loaded for Honduras.

The Maryland shipment was first. Coordinated through our partner Food For The Poor, these supplies were specifically requested for an organization called Michael’s Mission, based out of Metropolitan UMC in Maryland. The organization works to provide basic needs for school-age children, many of whom are homeless. Every year, we send two truck-loads of needed items their way.

This shipment included:

  • 2,112 UMCOR Hygiene Kits
  • 600 Blankets
  • 27 Sets of pillows and sheets
  • 560 UMCOR Menstrual Kits
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • 11 Sleeping Mats

The value was $48,060.28.

Shortly after the truck for Maryland left the building, it was time to load the shipment to Honduras. This was our eighth international shipment of the year! It took two hours and four people to load this shipment that included all kinds of requested items.

It included:

  • 30 Bikes
  • 6 Treadle Sewing Machines
  • 39 Electric Sewing Machines
  • 670 Blankets
  • 2,467 lbs. of Fire Gear
  • 5 Wheelchairs
  • 40 Cover Them With Love Quilts
  • 290 Birthing Kits (Although we have discontinued making this kit, we are continuing to send what we have already made and received.)
  • 321 Little girl outfits
  • 174 Little boy outfits
  • 20 Mattresses
  • Tarps
  • Medical supplies
  • Linens
  • Cleaning supplies

The value of this shipment was $106.061.90.

We thank God for the ability to touch so many lives by sending needed items that will bring hope and empowerment. We also thank God for you — without you there would be nothing to send, and no people to put together Kits. We couldn’t do it without you.

Midwest Mission has been blessed with volunteers across the Midwest who give of their time, energy and resources to assist us in carrying out God’s mission to help those in need.  Some of these volunteers use the facilities God has blessed them with to provide a donation collection point for needed supplies. These are our Permanent Collection Sites!

You can find their contact information here.

What’s Happening @ Permanent Collection Sites?

Riverside UMC, Park Rapids, MN – Spike Wellman worked with a local elderly care facility (Living at Home) to get eight hospital beds and mattresses for Midwest Mission along with wheelchairs, walkers and treadle sewing machines. Well, done Riverside!

Nebraska City FUMC, Nebraska City, NE – Has finished their first Sleeping Mat and have collected two bicycles for Midwest Mission.  They are also reaching out to a local school to see about obtaining bleacher wood to help Midwest Mission make Student Desks. Thank you for being mission minded.

Bethany UMC Green Bay, WI – Had a great turn out for their Plarn-a-Palooza! Keep coming up with great ideas.

Tanya Oberg, Rochester, MN – As a member of our Board of Directors, Tanya is always willing to act as a Collection Site for Midwest Mission. She has collected a hospital bed, blankets, various hospital equipment as well as a bicycle.  Thank you for all you do.

West Salem Trinity Church, Mount Vernon, IL - Has started their annual Lent season Cardinals vs Cubs Cleaning Kit challenge!  They put out 5 gallon buckets, one decorated for Cards, one for Cubs, and people donate for bragging rights for their team and all the money gets sent to Midwest Mission for Cleaning Kits.  Go TEAMS!!!

Prayers to Lift Up

This week, we thank God for all of those who love and care for the people around the world and around the corner who are in need. Whether working with Midwest Mission, or other organizations, people are sharing the light of Christ by showing God's love in a practical way, and we are thankful to join in on this mission.

"I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
