WHAT IS SOIVA?

Loosely translated, the Finnish word soiva means "sounding forth."

A Joyful Noise!

Founded by Finlandia Foundation in 2008, Soiva Music Camp is a memorable experience that brings together young people and instructors from Finland and the United States for a week of musical exploration, fun and cultural exchange.

Soiva at FinnFest 2023: "Brilliant!"

Kata Vuoristo and Artur Uronen (above at left) conducted music workshops for kids at FinnFest 2023 in Duluth, and the young people had a blast, according to Jennifer Pihlaja. Her niece Aili, age 10, and her younger twin sisters participated.

Jennifer says that Aili attended the Soiva workshop on Friday, "and couldn’t wait to return on Saturday. Using your body as a musical instrument — brilliant!

"She spent Friday night making a present for the instructors — she didn’t want these Finnish teachers to forget it. Aili might have been the only both-day participant — she really liked both of them very much."
