PORT AUTHORITY TO PROVIDE FREE WEEKEND SHUTTLE SERVICE ACROSS BAYONNE BRIDGE FOR PEDESTRIANS AND BICYCLISTS
Shuttle will provide alternative transportation method while walkway across
the bridge is closed during the Bayonne Bridge "Raise the Roadway" construction project
The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey announced on August 15 that it will begin providing shuttle service for pedestrians and bicyclists who wish to cross the Bayonne Bridge. This free service will operate Friday-Sunday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. during the peak usage months of May-October for the duration of the Bayonne Bridge "Raise the Roadway" construction project.
The shuttle service will provide an alternative means of transportation for pedestrians and cyclists who traverse the Bayonne Bridge on the shared-use walkway. The walkway was closed earlier this month as construction crews install temporary standpipes and other fire safety equipment needed for the construction of the project. In order to protect the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists, the walkway will remain closed for the duration of the project.
Shuttles will run every 30 minutes and make two stops; one at the entrance to the Bayonne Bridge Administration Building Parking Lot in Staten Island, NY, and one at West 4th Street in Bayonne, NJ, adjacent to the existing sidewalk staircase. The shuttles will be equipped with bike racks to accommodate bicyclists.
