Panther Post

September 6, 2024

Dear Sullivan Families,

It was wonderful to see so many families at Parent Night on Wednesday. We hope you enjoyed learning about our curriculum, spending time in your child's classroom, and our other instructional spaces. If you were unable to join us, the link to the video presentations and staff slides is below this letter. Be sure to take a few minutes to view those presentations for important information about our curriculum and our school! Please note, the links in the PDF to slide decks and videos are functional, but the hyperlinks between slides are not, so you can scroll through the presentation to view each teacher's informational page.

This edition of the Panther Post contains some great snapshots from the first two weeks of school, including our Expectations Assembly, Band and Orchestra Tryouts, and iPad Boot Camp. New this year are our Staff Spotlights, which will highlight a staff member or two each week. There is also information about signing up for Chorus and applying to become a Sullivan Ambassador.

Students will be completing their first round of iReady diagnostic testing next week. This testing, aligned to our curriculum, helps us understand each student's strengths and needs in reading and math, and provides them access to their differentiated iReady Path. Teachers use this information to plan small group instruction for students as well.

Lastly, we are still hiring for supervisory positions at Sullivan. If you are interested in becoming a lunch and recess supervisor from 10:45 - 12:00 or supervising during our early drop-off time from 7:45 - 8:05, please apply on our district website or email me to learn more!

Have a great weekend and GO BEARS!

Sincerely,

Traci Meziere

Principal

Bus Transportation Update

We continue to work with First Student to make adjustments and increase route efficiencies as we get through the start of the school year.  Unfortunately, First Student has been hit with significant driver absences in the past week that have resulted in route delays and missed stops. We thank you for your continued patience as we navigate the next several days of drivers returning and/or being hired. We ask that students arrive at their stop location 10-15 minutes ahead of their scheduled pickup time as First Student is continuing to assign drivers over the next few weeks.

Gold Medal Staff Nominations

Want to recognize a D23 staff member? Last year, we had staff members hitting home runs. This year, they are winning gold! Fill out the Form (HERE) to have a staff member be recognized. I know your positive feedback means a lot to our staff. Thanks for making us #PROUD2BD23! Also, watch X and Facebook for staff gold medal winners!

Sullivan Snapshots

Our 4th-grade students enjoyed musical demonstrations from MacArthur band and orchestra students, then were able to try out the top instruments they were interested in last week. Band and Orchestra sign up was on Tuesday, and we were excited to sign up over 80 students for our instrumental music program!

Ms. Sutter, our district Technology Integration Specialist, visited all of our 4th and 5th grade classes to run an iPad Boot Camp. Students learned how to set up their iPads for success and take care of their iPads, keeping them in tip-top shape with the Spa Treatment!

We held our Kickoff Assembly on Tuesday afternoon. Dr. A was the host of our Panther Feud, where veteran and new teachers faced off to see who knew our Sullivan expectations the best. The Case of the Missing Mascot was solved when Ember, our therapy dog, returned Sully at the end of the assembly! Click the button below to view the Expectations presentation we reviewed with the students.

Panther Expectations

Our core expectations of being safe, respectful, and responsible are in place to ensure our Sullivan learning community is a wonderful place to grow each day. Our expectations posters are included below for you to look over. Please review these expectations with your children.

Technology Support

Need help with a program, an app, or the District-issued iPad itself (which comes home in August or September, depending on grade level)? To quote an old Radioshack slogan, “You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers!” The teacher is the best person with which to start. If help is still needed, Sullivan and MacArthur students should submit a ticket using the Incident IQ app.

We also have our Tech Help Site, HERE, which has resources and “How-to” guides. If you find yourself needing more immediate support, email us at “techhelp@d23.org.” Together, we are #PROUD2BD23!”
