Store Stuff, News, and Tab Clearing
If I seem a little solemn today it's because it's 9/11 and I can hardly go about my business without remembering that terrible day 14 years ago. I still remember how all activity at our earlier fulfillment center stopped that morning while myself and the entire RACS staff was glued to the radio listening to news updates, and how in the course of a couple of hours the entire world irrevocably changed. It occurs to me that enough time has now passed since then that some of the younger folks today, say in their late teens or early twenties, probably have a hard time putting history into context based on their own experiences, anymore than I was able to put the Vietnam War into context when I was growing up in the 80's other than I knew it happened but had little personal recollection of the event. Anyway, we will pass the day in quiet remembrance, and I will leave it here with a quote from Aldous Huxley:
"The trouble with fiction is that it makes too much sense, whereas reality never makes sense."
So true.
It's reported in the news this week that Voice actor Scott Freeman pleaded guilty to eight counts of possession of child pornography on July 30 after accepting a plea bargain. He was convicted and sentenced to three years at a Texas state prison. In anime, Freeman had played roles such as Issei Hyodo in High School DxD, England in Hetalia - Axis Powers, Shusei Kagari in Psycho-Pass, Starjun in Toriko, Sunda in Fractale, Mitsuki Sarue/Sariel in The Devil is a Part-Timer! Oogumo in Guilty Crown, Kengo Usui in Maken-Ki! Battling Venus, Shinichiro Tokizane in Blood-C, and Yuuji Sakamoto in Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts, among others. FUNimation Entertainment replaced Freeman as the voice of Issei for the High School DxD BorN broadcast dub in May. Funimation commented on Freeman's conviction:
"In May of 2015, FUNimation became aware of the legal matter involving Scott Freeman, at which time we suspended our relationship with Scott. In the wake of recent news, we have permanently ended the relationship."
I think, like everywhere else, our industry has it's fair share of assholes. No more, no less.
Everyone who has been around here for awhile knows that one of my favorite characters of all time is Asuka from Evangelion, and now a limited edition Asuka 1:4 figure by BOME debuted at this summer's Wonder Festival and recently went on sale for the low low price of only 864,000 yen (US$7,165)!
She is gorgeous! I have just about every figurine of Asuka ever produced, and while I love Bome's work, I think she would have to be 1:1 scale to get me to consider mortgaging my future and parting with seven large for this. I'm not sure how many are being produced, but apparently she is already sold out in pre-order in Japan anyway - and no, I did not get one. Sometimes it's really irritating not having unlimited funds...
And finally, I just wanted to say that I'm glad Sentai is still firing on all cylinders (just look at this weeks
new arrivals) because we've hardly gotten a shipment from Funimation going on three weeks now, not even restocks, and all attempts on our part to get someone down there to communicate tangible status updates to us has so far failed. All we are told is that they are having system problems and are working on it, but that has been going on since June.
One Piece 7/2 is still MIA and if everything was running smoothly we would have had the 9/15 releases from them (like
FMA) a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure if we will get in their 9/15 and 9/22 releases on time at this point, and I'm sorry about that. I'm sure they will get all this sorted out, but either way I'll keep you updated when I get some tangible info. In the mean time, there is plenty of great new Anime from Sentai
hitting the dock right on time. :-)

Now, together with a new group of friends, Yu must plunge into a bizarre alternate reality where he gains unique abilities that will either help him solve the riddle of the mystery killer, or lead him to his doom. They should never have met. They shouldn't even exist. But when they come together, the entire world will change. The last surviving member of her clan, Mirai Kuriyama is cursed with the terrifying ability to control and manipulate blood, a power so heretical that she is shunned even by those with the ability to understand her "gift". Akihito Kanbara is only half human, but while the monstrous other half of his lineage seems to have doomed him to a life alone, it has also given him near invulnerability in the form of rapid healing. Alone, their futures seem bleak, but when a chance encounter brings them together, it becomes clear that they share more than just an unexpected bond. Together they share a destiny and a mission that only the two of them together may be strong enough to survive. Beyond the world that we know, in a realm where nightmares are real and legends walk, their future awaits BEYOND THE BOUNDARY.
There are just three things standing between Ryoma Sakamoto and his dream of becoming a famous rock star:
1 - he's barely making ends meet working in a pizza parlor
2 - the government of Japan has banned all rock music except for the prefabricated propaganda music performed by the state-run group Heaven's Songs, and
3 - he lives in Japan in the middle of the 19th century.
Okay, so those are three VERY big problems, but on the other hand, Ryoma DOES own his own guitar (even if it's illegal to own one) and that's enough incentive for him to take his one-man show on the road in search of fellow rockers. Sure, getting all feudally Footloosey in a land where a battle of the bands will probably involve swords may be a risky business, but once fellow rebel rousers Kogoro and Shinsaku come on board, there's no telling where these six-string samurai might end up in SAMURAI JAM - BAKUMATSU ROCK!
Momoko's family moves a lot, so she's always "that new girl" and the schools she's attended have all blurred together. Until her first day at Aogiri High, that is, where she's rescued by an armed vigilante, assaulted by a platypus and coerced into joining a secret organization of gun-toting female commandos. Okay, maybe that last one is really just the school's survival club, but the platypus is real and so are the extremes that club president Miou is willing to execute to recruit Momoko. Can uber-jaded Momoko's body armor-clad heart resist the charms of a girl who's all too ready to whip out her twin Desert Eagles in defense of another girl's virtue? Especially when it turns out that Momoko has her own talent for air pistols and senseless violence? Their course is locked and the odds are loaded as the rest of the club joins in the firefight in Sabagebu! -Survival Game Club!
Nowhere may seem like just another Yokohama cafe, but as with many of its employees, this apparently innocent eatery leads a double life. Because Nowhere is also where you can find Hamatora, the mysterious detective agency run by P.I.s who are also M.H.s. That's M.H. as in Minimum Holders, individuals gifted with extraordinary powers and abilities. For the right price, you can hire founder Nice, who moves at the speed of sound, and partner Murasaki, whose super strength and near invulnerability are a significant asset. Of course, with incredible talents like these up their sleeves, Nice may not decide to take a case unless it personally interests him. But when a series of serial murders all turn out to involve other Minimum Holders, that interest is about to become extremely personal. Something monstrous is going on, and Minimum Holders as a class may be targeted for extinction in HAMATORA - THE ANIMATION!
As the ley-lines of the Western Star near the point of collapse, the threat of invasion continues to escalate. Fearing attack from their sister world, the Eastern Star braces for the eruption of full-scale interstellar war. Meanwhile, betrayal follows betrayal as the factions seeking the Holy Grail continue to turn on each other. The Table is shattered and with Jeanne in the clutches of Cesare Borgia and Machiavelli, the seer seems destined for torture and burning at the stake. Will history repeat itself or will Nobu be able to pull off a daring rescue? King Arthur's horrifying plan comes to fruition and the fates of two planets depend on the actions of one man!
Contains episodes 14-24.
The rainy season's here, and the Defense Club is dedicating themselves to various indoor activities. But Kinozaki of the Press Society is stressing them out, chasing them around looking for material for a story. And on top of that, the student council - secretly Caerula Adamas - attempt to destroy the Defense Club by declaring that if a club's members' scores on their final exams do not meet the average, the club will be dissolved. Later, Yufuin inspires the Defense Club to go on a training camp to the ocean. The beach has bright sun and white sand, but there's something a little off about it. And one day, after a stop at the convenience store, Yufuin suddenly gets angry at Kinugawa and yells at him. A rift forms between the two friends, and soon a panic develops over them potentially leaving the Defense Club.
Contains episodes 5-8, plus a special CD, a deluxe booklet containing illustrations, lyrics, and a Let's Sing! in Japanese, and a photo card.
Brynhildr in the Darkness Complete Collection DVD
Haunted by memories of his childhood friend Kuroneko, Ryota Murakami has dedicated himself to discovering the truth behind the claim she'd made before she died: That aliens from other worlds walk among us. Believing that becoming a scientist is the path to the truth, Murakami pursues his studies by day and peers through a telescope at night. But when a girl named Kuroha Neko joins his class, the answers he's sought may be closer than he ever expected. For Kuroha looks exactly like an older version of Kuroneko, and seems to have abilities that no human could have. But the truth isn't the only thing Murakami is about to uncover, and the secrets he'll learn come with a deadly price. Because Kuroneko was right, and there are those who will do anything to keep that knowledge hidden. And unless Murakami and a handful of unlikely allies can somehow survive their lethal purge, the entire human race could be doomed in BRYNHILDR IN THE DARKNESS!?
Politics make for strange bedfellows, especially when you're a Princess, where bedding some strange fellow may be your duty to your country. Which is how Nike, fourth Princess of the Rain Dukedom, finds herself being shipped off to marry the King of the Sun Kingdom after losing a game of chance with her older sisters. And if it wasn't bad enough that King Livius is apparently a power-mad potentate who's managed to conquer most of the world in a few short years, Nike even manages to get herself mugged just as soon as she arrives! But then something strange happens and Livius turns out to be... well, not nice, but at least not exactly what Nike expected. There are sinister forces at work in the kingdom that can only be defeated if both young royals can find a way to work together. The future of both kingdoms and the world depends on a diplomatic relationship becoming something even more powerful in THE WORLD IS STILL BEAUTIFUL!

Yet in this time of renaissance and rebuilding, a new enemy emerges, and Yusei and his friends must rev it up in order to save the world - one duel at a time. But it won't be easy for our hero and his pals as they will be pushed to their limits, having to duel harder and faster than ever before.
