*** ANIME CORNER UPDATES ***
|

Updates
I've got several updates to pass on this week, so lets get to it!
First, Viz has finally announced their release of the first Berserk: The Golden Age Arc movie, which is coming to DVD and BD on November 27th: Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - DVD - Nov 27 Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - BLURAY - Nov 27
Now that is all sweetness. Really, can't wait to see this! :-)
Media Blasters sent us their latest schedule sheet, and so far everything on the schedule for this fall is holding firm except for two changes. They have added the boy love title Ai no Kusabi OVA DVD for Dec 4th, and they have also bumped the release of the KITE BD again, now all the way back to November 27th.
Funimation sent over a note this week letting us know that they have bumped Shana 2 - yet again. After just being moved up last week from Sept to Oct, they have now bumped it again from Oct all the way to Dec 11th: Shana (Shakugan no Shana) Season 2 Part 1 Complete DVD/BD Box - Oct 16 to Dec 11 Shana (Shakugan no Shana) Season 2 Part 2 Complete DVD/BD Box - Oct 16 to Dec 11 Patience is an Anime Fan that's for sure. But in fairness, one of the folks at Funimation told me that they have a 'good reason' for the delay, and they will be making that reason public in a few weeks. Ohhhhh the intrigue!
In better news, Funi also announced that they are finally re-scheduling the Strike Witches 2 BD/DVD set! It's being added to the October schedule and is now setup to street Oct 2nd. At last! And yes, it will remain a DVD/BD combo set, which is why it took so long to be released in the first place. Gotta satisfy those irrational Japanese re-importation fears.
NIS let us know last week that the just released Bunny Drop Premium set would be sold out at wholesale after filling retailer pre-orders and that the next batch would not be available until the end of September. We'll, it looks like they have been able to advance that time table a bit - Mitsu told me a couple days ago that we can now expect the next shipment of Bunny Drop by the end of August, so there should be no worries about our existing stock selling out before the next batch becomes available.
And finally, I've got a little personal rant, so the next paragraph is probably NSFW:
It seems some ass$#%@ felt it necessary to post a little blurb over at Fandom (and then cross post it over to our FB page) last week saying that he felt like I was a bit of a 'douche' for some of my recent comments on the Anime Industry. (Recent comments?) Now, I know I like to speak up about things that other folks just stay quiet about because they don't want to do anything that could threaten their precious revenue streams, but of all the things I've said over the years about the dumb decisions that other Anime companies make (like this, this, this, or this), he actually called me out on my stance against AniPlex's high pricing and limited distribution policy, a policy that I find frankly indefensible. I really have to question if the guy actually knows what a 'douche' is, and my guess is that he probably doesn't since he's clearly never had a girlfriend. Now if the guy works as a paid troll for AniPlex (all the big boys have them on the payroll), then I can just write it off as a lame attempt to discredit me from a company that seems perfectly capable of doing anything in order to maintain their monopolistic business practices. But if the post was made by a real person (i.e. - someone that just had nothing better to do with their time), then I can only conclude that the dude either doesn't know what the heck he's talking about, or has been totally brainwashed by the corporate machine, and I find that prospect a bit disconcerting. My experience is that, unlike this guy, most Anime fans really don't live in their mothers basements into their late 20's - because they are much smarter than this. So from one 'douche' to another - seek help dude. :-) Seriously, you need it.
Getting Social With RACS is Now Easier Than Ever!
Just FYI folks, we've made it easier than ever to get social with RACS! You can use the following easy to remember links to find us on Twitter, Facebook, or our official blog:
Odds and Sods Warner Bros. filed at least 16 separate lawsuits in California against resellers on Amazon's Marketplace. The e-vendor platform allows independent retailers to sell items. The lawsuit describes the items being sold as "counterfeit." Titles named in the suits include the Harry Potter films, Game of Thrones, The Wire and The Sopranos television series.
This is new and improved. While I'm glad to see it, studios don't often go after individual retailers for selling bootlegs. Remember a few year back when Amazon got dupped into selling those bootleg Sailor Moon boxed set directly? I would suggest to Warner that if they want to expand efforts, just slide on over to E-Bay. Instead of 16 sellers, that dragnet would probably yield 1,600.
Greg Maffei, President and CEO of Liberty Media Corporation, announced on Wednesday that his company plans to "separate the assets of Liberty Media and Starz, LLC, creating two separate asset-backed stocks." Starz Media is the parent company of the anime distributor Manga Entertainment, as well as of the distributor Anchor Bay. Liberty reported that Starz's revenue remained unchanged at US$403 million for the second quarter of the current fiscal year. However, "the increase in revenue for the Starz Channels business was offset by decreases in revenue for the Starz Distribution and Starz Animation businesses."
I've lost count, but this will probably be the 5th or 6th time that Manga Video has changed hands or been 'spun off' in the last 10 years. These big companies never seem to be able to figure out what to do with Manga, except (like Navarre last year), they always seem to ultimately decide that they it would be better if hte Animation division was off the books. I remember when Starz first picked up Manga a few years back, one of their sales managers called me up and berated me because I didn't think we could make a $100,000 annual commitment for thier catalog. I told him that Manga (at the time) barely had 20 titles in print, and most of those were already several years old. He was quite the pleasant fellow - I wonder if he ever moved on to a better job in the housekeeping and/or food services industry...
The Oita Broadcasting System News reported on Wednesday that Ryusei Mori, a man from Saiki City in Oita Prefecture, was arrested for uploading a volume of manga to the Internet for public download without its copyright owners' permission this June. The files in question were found by the prefectural police's division dealing with cyber crime during a search of the Internet for illegal images. According to the police, Mori admitted his guilt, stating that he uploaded the images "without question." His arrest marks the first in Oita Prefecture involving the misuse of file-sharing software.
Wow. That's like getting a ticket for going 1mph over the speed limit...
That's all I have for this issue. Have a great weekend everyone, and enjoy your Anime!
