TAB CLEARING

Just a few product updates to pass on to you this week.

Anime Limited in the UK has pushed back he release of the standard and limited edition versions of B: The Beginning Succession Season 2 BLURAY from Aug 2nd to Sept 16th. I figure that means we will get them here in North America late Sept, so we bumped the estimated release date to October 1st.

Media OCD, the new owner of AnimEigo, announced the release of their completely remastered edition of Bubblegum Crash on Bluray for Jan 22nd. Along with that announcement they said that the older High Def Disctopia edition of Bubblegum Crisis is now out of print for both the Bluray and DVD editions. They said that neither of these editions will be reprinted, but hinted that a re-release may be in the cards in the future. I looked at the white board in the office to check the odds of that and they are currently standing at about 99.97%. ;-) In addition, they said that they just finished authoring the new edition of Megazone 23 and think will be quite an upgrade.

On a side note, Media OCD also stated that:

"we have scoured the earth to see if Full Moon wo Sagashite had been dubbed past the 28 episodes that were originally released by Viz Media. We checked with the original dub studio Blue Water Sound, Viz Media, AND the person at the licensor in Japan that worked with Viz on it at the time – and we got conflicting stories. Regardless, since they were never released, there was only a couple of places that copies could be, and they are not there now. So if they ever did exist, they have been lost to the ages. However, fear not! The 28 existing episodes of English dub will be preserved on our forthcoming release."

We do love the folks that come over to RACS to find the stuff that they can't find at other stores when we already have everything to begin with. We'll never understand that, but whatever. ;-) So for all the folks that have piled in trying to order the volumes of the Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings In Russian manga that are currently sold out everywhere else - ETA for restocks for all those volumes is currently mid-late October. If you have an order in at the RACS store holding for them, it shouldn't be too long of a wait.

We got in all of Discotek's Sept releases except for Kite, which will be coming in closer to the street date. One note, I think Discotek came up a little short on the Dallos Complete OVA Series BLURAY, but we did get enough to fill all existing pre-orders for it. We're gonna leave it on pre-order status on the store site until we get more in, which will hopefully come before the street date,

Also, in a similar vein, the two Mobile Suit Gundam: the Witch from Mercury steelbooks started to trickle into the warehouse this week. As to be expected bc of the way they are packaged, a few of them didn't pass QC and are being returned. We are currently working to get all pre-orders filled and once those are complete, we will make them available for general ordering on the store site.

As I mentioned above, we are filling pre-orders for Dallos but we don't quite have enough in stock yet to make is available for general order.

We added pre-orders this week for AnimEigo's Bubblegum Crash BLURAY (Remastered Edition), the Macross Zero OVA Series BLURAY (Limited Edition) from Anime Limited, and the Godzilla Minus One Movie BLURAY (Live Action) and in 4K here. If you don't want to wait until January for AL's release of Zero, we have the English subtitled Japanese release in stock now.

The new manga and lite novels just kept coming this week as we got in three ginormous batches of new stuff in. And finally, as I mentioned above, Media OCD announced their 5th Bluray release under the AnimEigo label this week with the upcoming Bubblegum Crash BLURAY slated for release on January 22nd. They said they had far less than ideal material for the remaster, but they managed to restore it to about 85% of the 35mm originals. As a bonus, the Blu-ray will feature the original dub, the UK English and Castillian Spanish dubs, as well as German subtitles. You can pre-order your copy from RACS here!

The official Macross website announced in March that the "Star" brand of Disney+ will stream numerous anime from the Macross franchise in 2024. Big West, Studio Nue, and Harmony Gold USA announced in April 2021 that the companies agreed to allow the immediate distribution of most Macross television sequels and films globally. The companies agreed to cooperate on the distribution of future Macross and Robotech projects.

Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro console in a new trailer on Tuesday. The console will retail for US$699.99 and and 119,980 yen (includes tax). The PS5 Pro ships on November 7, with pre-orders open on September 26. The console will include a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro's Playroom. The console does not include the vertical stand, which is sold separately. A disc-less version of the console will be available for purchase, with the option to purchase the Disc Drive separately. The announcement comes after the company recently raised the suggested retail price for the PS5 console and its related peripherals. The change took place in Japan on September 2. The company cited severe external conditions, including recent changes in the global economic situation as the reasons for the price changes.

GameStop sales took another sharp drop in its most recent quarter ended August 3, but its $4.2 billion cash hoard served it well, turning an operating loss into a small profit due to interest income. Sales were down 31% from $1.164 billion in the same quarter a year ago to $798 million this year, even worse than the 29% drop in the company’s fiscal first quarter. As was the case last quarter, sales in the collectibles category, which includes tabletop games and merch, held up the best; sales were down 18% to $139.4 million in the quarter. Software sales took the biggest hit, with a 48% decline, and hardware and accessories were down 24%. The company showed an operating loss of $22 million, worse than the $16.6 million operating loss a year ago.

Credit card processing service Slim CD, popular in the U.S. and Canada, has revealed a massive data breach that exposed the personal information of nearly 1.7 million customers. The hack, which went undetected for almost a year, has raised serious concerns about data security in the financial sector. The Florida-based company, which offers payment gateway services and develops credit card-processing software, discovered suspicious activity in its computer environment on June 15, 2024, according to a customer notification letter dated September 6. The company later determined that unauthorized access to its systems occurred between August 17, 2023, and June 15, 2024. Slim CD warned that this breach may have allowed hackers to view or obtain sensitive customer data, including names, addresses, credit card numbers, and card expiration dates. A filing with the Maine Attorney General's office estimates that over 1.69 million customers were affected. Despite the scale of the breach, Slim CD has not offered any identity theft protection services to those impacted.

If you think the Paramount-Skydance drama was a bit much, you’re going to hate the next couple of years, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra warned on Thursday. At the annual Bank of America Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Vinciquerra said Hollywood is in for “chaos” over the next two years. He predicted the industry is in for a wave of “mergers and bankruptcies and sales and all kinds of fun things,” and that only the biggest companies will survive. Unless, that is, those giants “make some massive mistake or miscalculation” along the way.
