TAB CLEARING
The RACS Fulfillment Center will be closed on Monday May 27th for the Memorial Day holiday. All orders and inquires submitted over the holiday weekend will be processed when we return on Tuesday, May 28th.
Fan founded Studio ECLYPSE dropped a pilot trailer for The Black Swordsman, which is a fan animation project dedicated to the work of Kentaro Miura. So Berserk may finally be getting the unofficial Anime it deserves - if they can navigate the copyright issues and get permission to release it. Chibi reviews has more about it here.
Still no word on the delayed release of the One Piece Collection #34 DVD/BD Combo Set (Uncut) (Eps #819-842) which was due in 5/7. Crunchymation should really make a statement about why it's late, and when it's coming.
We have a big restock shipment of adult manga and doujin on the way from J18. There will be several new releases included in this shipment, and we'll have those in stock and posted to the store sometime late next week.
I wanted to mention that the upcoming The Devil is a Part-Timer Season 2 Part 2 BLURAY (Eps #13-24) solicited by Crunchymation as Season 2 Part 2 is considered to be "Season 3" in most Anime circles. These episodes where released a year after Season 2 Eps #1-12, and until now, most people have referred to Eps #13-24 as Season 3. Just don't want folks to get confused and think there is another season left to be released after this one.
And finally, we're seeing a couple of those older Funimation branded Anime releases go OOP in the market place every week now as the supply of them in distribution gradually dries up. I have discussed in the past about how it feels like Crunchymation is going to let many of these older Funimation titles sell out and fall out of print, with only the most important ones being re-released with updated Crunchymation branding. A few people have asked me to make a list of these older titles, but aside from it being a ton of work, I don't really want to do that because Crunchymation hasn't made any sort of 'official' statement that this is what is happening. But it is happening, so as a hint, the titles most in danger of becoming unavailable will be the ones on the RACS store that have the old FN- five digit item codes. Fortunately RACS is not locked into SPHV for sourcing those back catalog releases and we have many distributor partners we can go to, so our policy is to be to try to keep these older titles in stock as long as possible.

The bookscan top 20 best selling Manga chart is more diverse than usual for April, with only Jujutsu Kaisen placing more than two titles in the Top 20. Most of the titles are recent releases, along with a handful of first volumes of popular series, and while most of the titles are from VIZ Media, three other publishers are represented as well:

Seven Seas Entertainment announced that it has licensed Nekota and Asahiko's light novel The Villainess and the Demon Knight, as well as Haka Tokura, Shin Arakawa, and Eiri Shirai's Magical Buffs: The Support Caster is Stronger Than He Realized!, Rico Worico's How to Repair a Broken Cup, and Yuu Yoshinaga's Diary of a Female Lead: Shujinkou Nikki manga for an October release in print and ebook editions. The company also licensed Tan's BL manhwa Checkmate for a print release.
Adult Swim's Toonami programming block announced on Friday that it is creating a new block called Toonami Rewind that is dedicated to running anime, or versions of the series, that aired on the original Toonami prior to its 2012 revival. Toonami Rewind will air on Fridays starting on May 31 at 5:00 p.m. EDT, and it will feature Sailor Moon with the newer Viz Media English dub, Dragon Ball Z Kai — the condensed version of the 1989-1996 Dragon Ball Z anime series, and Naruto.
The entertainment company TOHO announced on Thursday that its board of directors has decided to acquire all shares of the anime studio Science SARU, effective on June 19. TOHO will then make Science SARU its consolidated subsidiary from the second quarter (June-August) of the fiscal year ending in February 2025.
Embracer Group wrote down its value for Asmodee and Dark Horse, part of a big loss it reported for the quarter and fiscal year ended March 2024. In its fiscal Q4 (January through March), Embracer lost $1.7 billion, compared to a $71.6 million profit in the year ago quarter. The company’s loss for the full year ended with March 2024 was also around $1.7 billion, compared to a $415 million profit for the previous fiscal year. In the case of Asmodee, good will was written down by $630 million, or around 20% of the roughly $3.1 billion acquisition price Embracer paid when it bought Asmodee. The good will of Dark Horse was written down by around $63 million. The acquisition price for Dark Horse has not been disclosed.
GameStop is moving further into the collectibles space, now buying high grade PSA cards in an attempt to take advantage of this robust market. Some of their locations, excluding stores in CA, DE, FL, MD, SD, and UT, are now authorized to make cash or credit offers of up to $500 per card on PSA-graded cards that are rated an 8, 9, or 10. These offers are non-negotiable and employees are not authorized to haggle over price on the spot. The cards will be resold via GameStop's website.
Yen Press has announced that it is looking to hire a Marketing & Publicity Manager. The full-time position is hybrid-remote, and will pay US$65,000 to US$75,000 per year. Skills required include four to five years of marketing and publicity experience in the publishing industry, experience pitching to media and press, and experience in managing social media accounts in a professional setting, among other skills.
Happinet announced that its subsidiary Happinet Media Marketing has signed a home entertainment license agreement with Walt Disney's Japanese arm to manufacture and sell Disney-branded Blu-ray Discs and DVDs in Japan, starting on October 1.
Hasbro is in talks to merge with DreamWorks Animation, Variety reports, based on information from "individuals familiar with the discussions." Hasbro is the larger company and would acquire DreamWorks’ stock to complete the transaction, according to the report. If the transaction is successful, DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg would become the head of the combined companies. Hasbro has the entertainment assets it retained after selling off its eOne assets, as well as 40% of Discovery Family, the channel it launched with Discovery Communications.
