Store News and Tab Clearing

TAB CLEARING

Sony's transfer of distribution from SDS to their own SPHV has been proceeding well, but has not gone off without any hitches. All of the May 14th releases shipped on time, but the May 7th release of the Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World BLURAY had to be kicked back a couple of weeks to May 21st. Also, the One Piece Collection #34 DVD/BD Combo Set (Uncut) (Eps #819-842) which was due in last week has not officially been bumped, but did not ship on time either and is currently MIA. I wanted to mention this because we have a few pre-order shipments being held up because it's not here yet. When we get some word as to what is going on with it, I'll pass it on.

I'm very happy to announce that the Berserk The Complete 1997 TV Series BLURAY is now back in stock - again! This is the third batch we had to bring in and this time around we've got plenty, so all purchase restrictions have been removed. If you don't have your copy yet, you can get it from RACS now.

Delicious in Dungeon has become the next Frieren Beyond Journey's End here at RACS. Last January when a lot of the Frieren volumes where sold out after Christmas, someone on Reddit posted that we had them in stock and it felt like the entire universe descended on the RACS store to buy them all at once.

This past week we had a similar experience with Delicious in Dungeon manga, where someone posted on Reddit that we had them and even though we had all the volumes stocked pretty deep, people have rushed in from that post to buy them up as fast as they could. As a result, we are now completely sold out of volume 4, 5, 6 and 10, with several others being very low stock. The moral of this story is that by the time you see a post about something being in stock somewhere on social media, there is a good chance it will already be sold out. The good news is that Yen Press has all of the Delicious in Dungeon volumes in reprint, and we expect them all back in stock around the middle of June. :-)

STORE STUFF - WHAT'S NEW @ RACS THIS WEEK!!

We have a bunch of early Anime arrivals in this week! New stuff includes the Re-release of the Food Wars! The Second Plate BLURAY from Sentai, which means all five Food Wars BLURAYS are available again. We also have the Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague BLURAY, the highly anticipated KONOSUBA : An Explosion on This Wonderful World! BLURAY, the Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear Punch! Season 2 BLURAY, and both the standard and limited edition versions of the Uzaki-Chan Wants to Hang Out! (Season 2) DVD/BD. Why did Sony allow the Uzaki-Chan season 1 BD set go out of print just prior to the release of season 2? - well, it had the old Funimation branding and studios aren't always run by the brightest bulbs (rolls eyes). We also got in the Naruto Shippuden Set 3 BLURAY (Eps #56-82) from Viz.

On the adult side, we finally got in the Kitty's Twin Treats Volume 3 BLURAY (Adult) and Kitty's Twin Treats Volume 4 BLURAY (Adult), and John has announced another upcoming bundle pack Kitty's Vault Klassics : High 5 Pack BLURAY (Adult) which will be coming on June 11th.

As per normal we got in several batches of new manga this week including a big one just this morning! New arrivals include 2.5 Dimensional Seduction , Vol #10, Duke of Death and His Maid , Vol #12, Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers , Vol #8, Fly Me to the Moon , Vol #23, Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time , Vol #12, White Mage Doesn't Want to Raise the Hero's Level , Vol #2 and way too many more to list!

We added a small new batch of previously loved Anime to the pre-owned section this week. You can find that list below. We had gotten away from that for awhile to prioritize other things but we should be adding new items to that section pretty regularly again going forward. :-)

And finally, we just had a new shipment from Japan hit the dock, so we've got in about 20 more English Subtitled Japanese BLURAY releases to post to the store. We already added the first four, and we will be adding the rest to the store as time permits over the next few days.

IN THE NEWS

VIZ Media has licensed Destroy All Humans. They Can't Be Regenerated. A Magic: The Gathering Manga, by writer Katsura Ise and artist Takuma Yakota and the first volume of the series will include an exclusive Magic card. The shonen slice-of-life series, which is up to Vol. 15 in Japan, is set in 1999 and features a pair of high school students, the rowdy Magic: The Gathering fan Hajime and his cool-headed classmate and academic rival Emi. Despite her aloof attitude toward Hajime’s noisy Magic sessions at school, she turns out to be a skilled player herself, and the two become friends over a series of duels. VIZ will publish the first volume in October 2024.

The Sony owned platform Crunchyroll has acquired the North American and select global rights for the cinematic anime adaptations of Blue Lock spin off Episode Nagi, the first part of the Hailkyu!! Final duology Decisive Battle at The Garbage Dump, and the third cinematic entry to the Overlord anime franchise The Sacred Kingdom.

Kadokawa announced on Tuesday that it is establishing a new animation production studio called Bellnox Films this month, and the studio will formally start its operations on July 1. Koji Kajita, a former head of Gonzo and a founder and former president of david production, is serving as the representative director and president of Bellnox Films. The new production studio aims to incorporate a "new production style" and evolve the industry via a new system that is not limited by the job titles or fields of traditional anime production. Kajita stated that he wants to work towards making the animation production industry more systematic and rational, allowing it to grow flexibly. With this aim, Bellnox Films is focusing on "creating beneficial works."

Funko reported a loss of $23.7 million in Q1 2024, down from a $61.1 million loss in Q1 2023, the first quarter of what ended up being a very rough year for the company, the company reported in its quarterly financials. Funko’s sales continued to decline, down 14.4% for the quarter, from $251.9 million in Q1 2023 to $215.7 million in Q1 2024. Interim CEO Michael Lunsford attributed the decline to a reduction in entertainment content due to the Hollywood strikes last year in the conference call. U.S. sales led the decline, down 17.4%. Acting CFO Yves LePendeven noted in the call that European sales have a higher percentage of evergreen sales, and so were less impacted by the reduction in Hollywood content.

Massive Publishing, under license from King Features, will release a manga-style comic take on the venerable Popeye characters, with the story to reveal how Popeye lost his eye, a backstory of the character that’s never before been told. An old enemy from the sea also appears in this story. Eye Lie Popeye, Massive Publishing’s new five-issue Popeye series, will be written and drawn by Marcus Williams. It will launch with a 40-page first issue on August 7.
