In early May Titan put the word out that the Speed Grapher Vol. 1 Manga had a print error and was being recalled. Titan let us know this week that they are creating a reprint for this title, which is now re-scheduled for an 8/20 street date.

Gege's Akutami is having health issues, so he announced recently that Jujutsu Kaisen will be on break for a couple weeks in Japan while he rests. I'm not sure if it's the pressure of Shonen Jump deadlines that are making some very prominent authors in Japan ill, or the toxic backlash they get from a certain segment of the fan base whenever they need some rest or take a series plot in a direction certain fans don't like. Chibi Reviews talks a little more about it here.

Next week we will be locking in our pre-order qnty for the Oshi No Ko Collector's Edition Steelbook BLURAY that is streeting in late July, so I just wanted to mention again that it is very likely that Sentai will only press 1 run of these and that demand may be heavy enough that it will be sold out on or shortly after the release. If you want one, get your pre-order in now so we can lock that in for you.

Discotek kept the FOMO going strong this week by moving 6 more titles into their out of print catalog. Those titles are:

Most of these sold out immediately upon the announcement except for Fatal Fury which we keep stocked pretty deep. Now we all know OOP doesn't necessarily mean 'unavailable' with them. OOP only means they don't plan to repress, but doesn't mean they aren't currently sitting on 1,000 copies. So even though these titles are OOP, we have them on order so keep your backorders open with us and be patient. Chances are Selby will find a few cases in that POD he keeps in his backyard and we'll get some more from them in the near future. ;-)

Demand for the Yosuga No Sora: In Solitude Where We Are Least Alone BLURAY has been very heavy recently, and even the folks at Media Blasters don't know why so many people have been picking it up. Even so, they have had to order a new pressing of it and we have a hundred more copies inbound, which should get here just in the nick of time as we are running out of what we have in stock currently.

Two years ago when it was suggested we convert RACS to a Shopify store I just said "yeah, that'll be the day..." This week we completed a year in the making upgrade to the store site's backend that optimized running the store code on AWS where it has lived for some time now. We can now do full store database updates in under 10 minutes where as before it took a couple hours. This means we can get new stuff uploaded even faster than before. On the live site the store should be loading even faster than it was before, and processes like the cart and checkout should be smooth and error free. Just a little shout out to our dev team for doing such great work!

New Anime arrivals in stock this week include the Buddy Daddies BLURAY and The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World BLURAY from Crunchymation, and the Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning Movie BLURAY/DVD from Shout Factory. We also have the Mashle: Magic and Muscles Season 1 BLURAY Set inbound from AniPlex. It will probably be hitting the dock on Monday.

IN THE NEWS

AnimeNYC and Japan Society will launch the first-ever American Manga Awards, with Frederick L. Schodt the first inductee into the Manga Publishing Hall of Fame, the organizers announced. The American Manga Awards will be presented by AnimeNYC creators and organizers LeftField Media, and co-organized by LeftField and Japan Society, a non-profit that has been connecting Americans with Japanese arts, culture, language, business, and society since 1907. The first winners will be announced an invitation-only event at Japan Society’s Lila Acheson Wallace Auditorium in New York on August 22, the eve of AnimeNYC.

GKIDS announced that it has acquired the theatrical, videogram, and digital transactional rights to the television anime adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu's Dandadan "paranormal mystery battle & romantic comedy" manga. According to the company, this is its first time handling a first-run series, as opposed to a retrospective series. GKIDS will announce more details in the future. The company streamed an English-subtitled trailer.

Yen Press will publish Dark Souls: Redemption, an original story set in the world of the video game Dark Souls. The story, by writer Julian Blondel and artist Shonen, follows a woman who rises from her tomb to go on a mysterious journey, shadowed by a protector from the dangers that lurk around her. The first volume of the series, which is rated for older teens, will be released in paperback on August 27, 2024, with an MSRP of $15.00.

Dark Horse Comics has announced that it will publish Yojimbot, by writer/artist Sylvain Repos and colorist Noiry, a story set in a post-apocalyptic Japan where robots re-enact the rituals of samurai. The graphic novel follows one such Yojimbot as it rescues a child and protects him on a danger-filled journey in search of the mysterious being who may be able to offer sanctuary. A portion of the series, translated by Matt Madden, was published digitally in English by Europe Comics and appears to still be available on Kindle. The first Dark Horse volume, Yojimbot: Metal Silence, will be published on December 4; the 160-page, 7” x 10” paperback will have an MSRP of $19.99.

Seven Seas Entertainment announced that it has licensed Gorou Nori's Imaizumi Brings All the Gals to His House, Narise Konohara and Nao Inui's Beautiful Things: The Complete Manga Collection, Coco Uzuki's Hoteri Hotette First Kiss, Tarona's That Time I Got Stuck to the Guy I Hate, and Hideo Yamamoto's HIKARI-MAN manga for print.

Nanashi announced on X/Twitter that their Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro (Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san) manga will end in three chapters. Chapter 154 will be the final one. Nanashi debuted the manga on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket website in November 2017. Kodansha published the manga's 19th compiled book volume on April 9.

Shannon Tindle, the director of Ultraman: Rising - the upcoming Ultraman CG animated feature film from Netflix and Tsuburaya Productions - announced that the film will get a limited theatrical run in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The film will screen in New York City; Los Angeles; Chicago; Philadelphia; Dallas; Atlanta; Boston; Washington, DC; San Francisco; Seattle; and Miami in the United States. It will screen in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver in Canada. It will screen in four locations in London, as well as in Oxford, Sheffield, and Knutsford in the United Kingdom.

Netflix announced that it will stream Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie, the two-part anime film project adapting the final "Shadow Galactica" arc of Naoko Takeuchi's original Sailor Moon manga, exclusively worldwide on August 22. The first film opened on June 9, 2023, and the second opened on June 30.

The AnimeFest convention's social media accounts announced that this year's event will be its last large-scale event. The event will take place at the Loews Arlington & Convention Center in Arlington, Texas from July 25 through July 28. The event will include a dealer room, cosplay competition, an Art Show exhibiting anime fan art for sale, a GameFest featuring video game demos, an arcade, and tabletop games, as well as an IdolFest on July 26. Evil Genius Games is sponsoring the event. The World Fandom organization has hosted the convention for 32 years.

Six Alamo Drafthouse franchised locations are closing abruptly after their owner filed for bankruptcy. The venues include five Texas locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as a Minnesota venue in Woodbury. The theaters are operated by Two is One, One is None, LLC, which is filing for Chapter 7. The closure is effective immediately and staff has been informed that their employment has been terminated. In a message from the franchisee to employees that was circulating on social media, the owners said they lost “over $1 million” in 2023. The Texas theaters are located in Richardson, Las Colinas, Lake Highlands, Dallas, and Denton.
