Hey everyone, nice to see you again. :-)
It looks like we will have a major snowstorm coming thru sometime on Sunday. Some forecasts have a lot of snow, and some not so much snow but some icing, so I'm not sure if there will any impact on our operations Monday. Just a heads up in case there are any delays here on our end next week.
We've have had a significant increase recently in the number of RACS customers who are using BitCoin to fund their Anime purchases, and I just thought I would drop in a blurb outlining how that works. If you are interested in paying for your purchases via BitCoin, just place your order as normal but select 'BitCoin' as your payment method. We will process your order same or next business day and pull your available items, make any adjustments in the ship-able total in $, and then message you with a corresponding order total in BitCoin plus a wallet address for you to make the transfer too. Once your transfer is confirmed, your order is released for shipment. Easy peasy. :-)
Last week I mentioned that Sentai Filmworks announced that they have picked up Season 3 of Teasing Master Takagi-san. I forgot to mention how it demonstrates what we are dealing with in this crazy market where everyone is grabbing all the content they can get their hands on. The three seasons of Teasing Master Takagi-san will end up being incensed by three different companies:
S1 - Funimation
S2 - Netflix
S3 - Sentai (now AMC)

O-Mi-Cron is causing the supply chain delay monster to rear it's head again, and this time around I think the problems are going to be even more unpredictable. Even another short disruption in production --> distribution --> point of sale is going to reverberate for weeks or months afterwards, so just buckle up and I'll try to keep you informed about what we are seeing on our end.
The 'spectacularly well managed' Shout Factory has announced a disk replacement program for the Neon Genesis Evangelion Complete Series Standard Edition BLURAY because Disc 5 contains a bonus feature "THE END OF EVANGELION – Deleted Live Action Scene" that does not have English language subtitles. Great QA once again. Click here if you are interested in getting a replacement disk from them.
Gundam posted an excellent video this week about why American comics are dying & Manga is thriving, in snarky autistic detail. Between the culture wars and just bad story telling, it's now estimated that more manga is stolen than the entire US comic industry sells. Check it out, because he hits the reasons exactly right.
We posted a batch of pre-owned items to the store this week. Scroll down to see the entire list of what we added. We also got in some new figurines this week, which is always nice to see considering the overseas transit problems we are dealing with right now. Pre-orders have already been filled and these are the ones we have extra's of left in stock!
And finally, we managed to get in about half a skid of the One Piece Graphic Novel Box Set 4 (Vol #71-90) this week. This is the box set Viz warned back in October would be super allocated, and they were not sure they would be able to meet demand for it at release. Now, everyone who collects the One Piece saga knows how hard some of the single issues are to find these days. We have about a dozen of these boxes left after filling pre-orders, so grab one while you can bc who knows if/when another pressing will be done! |
NEW LICENSES
Funimation confirmed that it has licensed GONZO's Dog & Scissors (Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyō) television anime series. The company stated it could NOT confirm right now if it will release the series on home video.
Seven Seas Entertainment announced that it has licensed the Vivy Prototype light novels, the You Like Me, Not My Daughter?! manga, and Pandania's The Evil Secret Society of Cats manga.
Tokyopop confirmed that it has licensed the following manga and will release them in the coming months in print:

According to Box Office Mojo, the animated adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen’s eponymous prequel series took in a total of roughly $50 Million USD (¥5.7 Billion JPY) between the film’s December 24th, 2021 release date, and the weekend of January 1st-2nd. Box Office Mojo reports that Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie took home at least $2 Million USD (¥230,468,890 JPY) in its debut weekend, with a confirmed $47,508,798 USD (¥5,474,940,800 JPY) from the first week of 2022. With this return, after only roughly two weeks in theaters, Jujutsu Kaisen has managed to outperform every live-action film released in the region in 2021, including the live-action adaptation of Tokyo Revengers ($39 Million USD), F9: The Fast Saga ($33 Million USD), No Time To Die ($22 Million USD), Venom: Let There Be Carnage ($15 Million USD), Marvel’s Eternals ($10 Million USD), and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($9 Million USD). Only four films, tellingly all anime, managed to best Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie’s two-week take across their entire cinematic runs. These were the record breaking Demon Slayer: Mugen Train ($365 Billion USD), Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time ($92 Million USD), Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet ($67 Million USD), and Mamoru Hosoda’s latest work Belle ($57 Million USD).
Los Angeles Police Department officers Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell were fired for playing Pokémon GO instead of responding to a call regarding a robbery in progress on April 2017. This incident came to public attention when the former officers submitted a petition to the California Courts of Appeal. The court denied their appeal, as reported in an official court document filed last Friday.
Damn, it's takes the LAPD a long time to do internal investigations! lol

The organizers of Comic Market (Comiket), Japan's largest event for selling self-published dōjinshi works, reported on Friday that four more people linked to the event tested positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The four individuals had been contacts with two Comiket staffers who were diagnosed with COVID-19 on January 4. Comic Market 99 ran from December 30 to 31 with restricted attendance, and those two Comic Market Committee members worked on December 30. On the evening of December 29, six people, including the two staff members with COVID-19 and one additional staffer who tested negative, ate and drank together. Then, on December 31, the same three staff members and eight other individuals ate and drank together. Of these eight people, four tested positive for COIVD-19 - three regular attendees for Comiket and one person who did not even attend Comiket. Additionally, of the eight non-staff members at the gathering, two had also been present at the December 29 gathering, but only one of them tested positive while the other tested negative. Three of the four individuals with COVID-19 had a fever on January 3 and tested positive on January 4-5. The remaining person was asymptomatic and tested positive on January 10.
Bloomberg reported that Sony will continue producing PlayStation 4 consoles to make up for the ongoing shortage of PlayStation 5 consoles. According to Bloomberg, Sony confirmed the decision with its assembly partners in late 2021. The continued production will add "about a million" PS4 consoles. Sony previously announced in January 2021 that that it has halted production of all models of the PS4 Slim (except for the "Jet Black" model) and PS4 Pro models in Japan in order to free up production lines for the PS5.
Of course, this morning NLab in Japan reported that Sony has denied Bloomberg's report that Sony would continue producing PlayStation 4 consoles to make up for the ongoing shortage of PlayStation 5 consoles. So who knows what they are really doing - considering how hard it still is to get a PS5 over a year on, I'm not sure they know either....
And finally, for everyone out there that has been buying, arbitraging, and flipping during the pandemic to make a few extra bucks and live the work at home dream (you know who you are), starting this year the IRS is coming for their cut of your side hustle. Check it out.

“I’ve lost all hope in this world!”
Nozomu Itoshiki is a teacher who’s at the end of his rope. Literally. He’s trying to hang himself from a beautiful cherry tree, when one of his students, a girl named Kafuka, butts in and saves his life. She can’t help it, though. Kafuka is an abnormally cheerful girl who can only see the good in every situation. In fact, all of Nozomu’s students are a bit odd. Chiri is a hyper-perfectionist, Matoi is a female stalker, Usui is a balding masochist, and the list goes on. Nozomu is supposed to be preparing these young men and women for the future – but since his idea of “preparing for the future” involves tying nooses and buying funeral plots,
he might not be the best man for the job.
Filled with dark humor and sharp social commentary, Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei finally has its first-ever North American release.
Come lose all hope with this absurd comedy!
