Brian Morgan's junior advisees showing their AHS pride on the Fort Lewis College campus Tuesday
|
Hello Osprey Community,
We've had a busy week, filled with adventures on campus and off in preparation for the year ahead, and it feels really sweet to have our students back with us. We appreciate everyone's help in getting the 2016-17 school year off to a strong start!
Tomorrow, we would love lots of helping hands at the
Feathering the Nest Campus Clean-Up
. We'll be painting names on staff parking spots, as mentioned in the letter we sent out yesterday about driving and parking. We'll also be organizing our outside building area--where the tiny house and trebuchets live--and tackling a handful of other projects. Items that we'd happily accept as donations include: outdoor furniture, bookcases or wall-mounted shelving, a cordless weed eater, tools and screws. Please RSVP to Ashley Hein at development@animashighschool.com so we have a sense of how many folks to expect. Feel free to stop by anytime between 10:00 and 4:00 with your work gloves and elbow grease!

On Monday, we'll dive into our regular daily schedule, with students attending all their academic classes, including electives. Our registrar, Laurel Rodd, has been working with students to get schedules finalized; reach out to her with any questions.
Catered lunch also begins on Monday. Many thanks to our parent volunteers who will help with lunch duty. For more information about the local restaurants who provide lunch for our students and how to order lunch, please visit the AHS website here.

Wednesday of next week, teachers will present
XBlock classes being offered first quarter, which include rock climbing, volleyball, tennis, hiking, cross fit, skateboarding and more. Some classes will have a fee, but many will be free. With our new schedule, XBlock classes meet once a week on Wednesday afternoons for just under two hours; this will allow us to get off campus more easily and engage in a better range of physical activities together. Students will sign up for their top three XBlock choices on Thursday and XBlock classes begin on Wednesday, September 2.
Wednesday evening, AHS college counselor Jess Adams is offering a Senior Information Night
from 5:00 to 7:00 in the AHS Commons. Seniors and their families are encouraged to attend to learn more about the college application process, scholarships, FAFSA and more.
Enjoy your weekend and thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!

Welcome to PAC!
Hello and welcome to the school year! My name is Marla Stills and I am pleased to be the Chair of the PAC (Parent Advisory Committee). I have two daughters, sophomore Ava Stills and recent Animas graduate Hayden Stills, who has just left for Emerson College in Boston. I look forward to connecting with new and returning Animas families and facilitating the PAC committee as a way to create a stronger link between home and high school.
PAC meets monthly for about an hour and is the place where parents can drop in to hear Head of School Sean Woytek give an update on issues that affect Animas High School and its students. Development Director Ashley Hein will share information about our fundraising efforts and each month we will all share opportunities for involvement. Parents are encouraged to ask questions and share both compliments and concerns. Look for the upcoming meeting agendas to be published in
News From the Nest
. Please note that our meeting schedule includes both morning and evening meeting times in an effort to include as many families as possible. See you at PAC!
Join us at our first PAC meeting on Wednesday, September 14 from 8:30 to 9:30am at the Smiley Cafe in the Smiley Building at 1309 East Third Avenue. Our agenda will include updates and information about the mill levy, construction projects, fundraising, opportunities for involvement and the start of the year.
