Fourth of July Celebration

An Anaheim tradition continues with a day of family fun as we celebrate our nation’s birthday.

Join us for the Anaheim Fourth of July Celebration on Thursday with events at Canyon High School and Peralta Canyon Park in east Anaheim.

Firecracker 5K/10K

The day starts with the Firecracker 5K/10K run and walk that begins at Canyon High at Imperial Highway and Santa Ana Canyon Road.

The run and walk starts at 7 a.m. with check-in starting at 5 a.m.

The route goes along Santa Ana Canyon Road at Imperial and heads east just past El Rancho Charter School for the 5K and to Anaheim Hills Festival shopping center for the 10K before looping back to finish at the Canyon High track.

There are water stations along the way and awards for top finishers.

Parking is available at Canyon High.

There’s still time to register for the 5K and 10K runs or the 5K walk at Anaheim.net/FourthofJuly.

Yankee Doodle Dog Show

The Yankee Doodle Dog Show is 9 a.m. at Canyon High.

The patriotic dog costume contest includes awards for small, medium and large dogs as well as the Yankee Doodle Dog award for the most patriotic pooch!

Dog show registration starts at 8:15 a.m. with event day registration available. You can register in advance at Anaheim.net/FourthofJuly.

Fourth of July Parade

The Fourth of July Parade kicks off at 1 p.m. at Canyon High with marchers, cars and dignitaries.

The parade starts at Imperial Highway and travels along Santa Ana Canyon.

Music, food and fireworks

It's an afternoon and evening of music and food at Peralta Canyon Park starting at 3 p.m. leading up to fireworks at 9 p.m.

Parking is available at the park.

Everyone from across Anaheim and beyond is welcome. The event is in east Anaheim as all fireworks other than professional shows are banned in the area because of high wildfire risk.

A heads-up: We will see some road closures along Santa Ana Canyon Road from Lakeview Avenue to Pinney Drive throughout the day.

Support Anaheim fireworks stands

Celebrate the Fourth of July by supporting our community.

Each year, eight Anaheim-based nonprofits and eight high schools sell Safe and Sane fireworks — the only fireworks allowed in Anaheim — with proceeds going back to our community.

If you plan to buy and responsibly use legal fireworks, do so from Anaheim stands!

Safe and Sane fireworks, which include fountains, sparklers, smoke balls and flowers, are allowed only on July 4from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and not before or after.

2024's fireworks stands are run by and benefit:

  • Calvary Apostolic Church
  • God's House/Casa de Dios
  • Destined to Dance Studio Inc.
  • Anaheim First Christian Church
  • Women's Auxiliary Unit No. 72
  • My Safe Harbor Inc.
  • Iglesia Esperanza Viva
  • Victory Outreach Anaheim
  • Eight Anaheim high schools

Important dates:

  • Now through July 3fireworks stands open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • July 4: fireworks stands open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Fireworks may be used from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on July 4 only

Do it right or face fines

We want everyone to have a happy Fourth of July and celebrate with care with illegal fireworks never allowed in Anaheim.

City enforcement teams are on patrol on and around Fourth of July. Enforcement teams include Anaheim Police, Code Enforcement and Anaheim Fire & Rescue.

The teams will focus patrols on neighborhoods with a lot of illegal fireworks.

The teams are looking to catch someone in the act of setting off illegal fireworks or in possession of illegal fireworks so we can issue citations that will stand up in court.

Teams are also looking to deter illegal fireworks by being visible in the community.

We know how frustrating illegal fireworks are, and we are committed to keeping our residents and neighborhoods safe.

Fines for using illegal fireworks or misusing Safe and Sane fireworks:

Illegal fireworks

  • First offense: $1,000
  • Second offense: $2,000
  • Third offense: $3,000

Safe and Sane misuse

  • First offense: $250
  • Second offense: $500
  • Third offense: $1,000

You are encouraged to report illegal fireworks to Anaheim.net/reportfireworks.

Enforcement teams will be using reports to target their patrols.

Save on summer cooling

Anaheim enjoys great weather. But with summer comes heat and the highest electricity bills of the year as demand for air conditioning goes up.

Summer is also when we see statewide Flex Alerts urging Californians, including here in Anaheim, to conserve energy when demand is high.

While we typically always have enough power to serve our city, we are still required to take part in conversation when California calls for it.

Here in Anaheim, conservation is really just a way to help manage summertime bills. And here are some pro tips to keep cool and save money.

  • When it's hot, cool your home early in the day to manage outside heat and indoor cooling as the day goes on.
  • Close window coverings to keep the sun's heat out. Keeping rooms as dark as possible helps keep them cool.
  • Use fans to help circulate cool air from vents.
  • Change air filters every three months or as needed.
  • Make sure your air conditioning system is maintained.
  • Unplug unneeded electronics that generate heat.
  • Don't use your oven on the hottest days; use a microwave or barbecue instead.
  • If you must use your oven, use the exhaust fan while cooking to take heat out of your home.
  • Be sure to use exhaust fans in bathrooms during showers to take steam heat out of your home.
  • Put off using appliances where possible in the late afternoon, when power demand is highest from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Charge electric vehicles, phones, tablets and laptops before 3 p.m. or after 9 p.m.
  • Run dishwashers, washing machines and other major appliances before 3 p.m. or after 9 p.m. where possible.
  • Set pool pumps to run in the early morning or late at night.
  • Put off trimming shade trees until fall.
