Anaheim continues to recover from the coronavirus outbreak with vaccines, testing, community assistance and updates at Anaheim.net/coronavirus and on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The newsletter is a weekly summary. This week's issue includes:

  • Anaheim and OC case update
  • Vaccine update
  • What's ahead

We thank everyone in Anaheim for doing your part to fight coronavirus in our community, and we want you to know that as your city, we're here for you.
Anaheim cases
We continue to see low COVID-19 case numbers for Anaheim and Orange County, as we increase vaccinations and stop the spread of the virus.

It's important that everyone continue to fight COVID in all we do and get vaccinated, if you haven't done so already.

Anaheim saw an increase of 52 cases in the past seven days, up from 39 new cases the week prior, while Orange County saw 309 new cases, down from 406 last week.

Case levels remain low in Anaheim. While we saw slightly higher cases this week over last, the change is not unusual nor unexpected with more people resuming work and other activities.

We will continue to monitor and share any concerns should we see sustained higher cases over an extended period.

Anaheim is at a cumulative 41,965 cases, with 5,396 among children.

Orange County is at a cumulative 254,946 cases, with 26,725 among children.

Sadly, Anaheim has seen 884 people pass from complications of COVID-19, the condition caused by coronavirus. The county has seen a total of 5,042 deaths.

Our hearts go out to the families who have lost someone dear to them.

The county has processed a total of 3,850,971 polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, tests, the standard for diagnosing COVID-19 cases.

Anaheim and Orange County entered yellow Tier 4, the most permissive in the state's reopening framework, on Wednesday, May 19.

With this advancement, we see incremental but meaningful changes. Here are some of the key ones:

  • Angel Stadium of Anaheim: 67 percent capacity, up from 33 percent
  • Honda Center: 10 percent capacity; higher with vaccination or testing verification
  • Disneyland theme parks: 35 percent, in-state only, up from 25 percent
  • Bars: reopen indoors at 25 percent

The colored, restrictive tier system is set to be retired on June 15, with Anaheim, Orange County and all of California moving to largely normal operations. The next phase of reopening is known as Beyond the Blueprint.

You can see more at Anaheim.net/reopening.

The county's current case rate is 1.5 per 100,000 residents.

The county's current positivity rate is 0.9 percent.

The county's current positivity rate among our harder-hit, low-income communities is 0.9 percent.

We continue to dispense vaccines in our city at the Anaheim Convention Center and at community centers and mobile clinics in neighborhoods.

In our data below we include the percent of Anaheim residents age 12 years and older who have been vaccinated, based on state data.

See more on vaccines below.

Vaccines: neighborhood focus
With big gains in the past few weeks, the Super POD at Anaheim Convention Center is set to close after the last vaccines are administered on June 5.

This is a great milestone. The convention center site and the Anaheim POD at Disneyland Resort, which closed April 30, played critical roles getting our city and county to a high level of vaccination.

This week we hit 500,000 shots given in Anaheim alone!

Now we are continuing our focus on neighborhood clinics.

With our partners, Anaheim Community Services is holding two to three weekly vaccination clinics in neighborhoods.

The next neighborhood clinic is set for tomorrow, May 22 at the Downtown Community Center, 250 E. Center St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

You can make an appointment here or simply walk up. The Pfizer vaccine will be offered to those age 12 and older. Kids age 12 to 17 will need a parent or guardian to accompany them.

To see and sign up for upcoming clinics go to Anaheim.net/vaccines. You can always just walk up without an appointment.

And through June 5, getting vaccinated at the Anaheim Convention Center has never been easier. You can make an appointment or walk right in. Both Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are offered.

What's ahead: Beyond the Blueprint
Today the state is out with a reopening update, confirming that we will return to largely normal life on June 15, with most restrictions on businesses and activities going away.

In addition, California has developed guidelines to allow for large events such as conventions and trade shows at the Anaheim Convention Center to resume with some modifications starting on June 15.

Large indoor events with more than 5,000 people will require attendees to verify they have been fully vaccinated or tested negative for COVID-19. This also applies to concerts and other events at Honda Center.

For large outdoor events with more than 10,000 people, the state recommends vaccine or negative test verification, but also allows for a masking option for those who decline.

This is encouraging news that confirms we're holding steady with low case numbers and increasing vaccinations in our state.

We can't wait to see visitors back safely at our convention center. The outlook on our economic recovery has never been brighter!

Thank you for doing your part to fight COVID to get us to this point.
