We previously sent out an email to our customers letting them know that the NTTA is requiring upgrades to their Transcore Toll Tag Readers. As part of our commitment to providing you with the latest and most secure technologies, we are now following up to provide you a solution for the mandatory upgrades required for Transcore Toll Tag Readers.
The NTTA new policy states that they will henceforth be using a new technology commonly referred to as “Gen 2, 6C.” This technology is one of three federal standards for tollway tag protocols. The existing TransCore Readers will still work with the old tags, but they will require an upgrade to enable the reading of the new tags. NTTA is expected to start distribution of the new tags effective immediately.
Most existing readers require an upgrade to add 6C compatibility in order to read the new tollway tag technology. Any Cypress data converters will also need to be updated. However, any units built prior to 2012 will need to be replaced, as they are not upgradeable. Please get with us if that pertains to you as in this situation, it will be a case-by-case basis on cost.
Orion, in partnership with TransCore, has prepared and is pleased to offer a reader upgrade program to our customers. As stated above, this upgrade is essential for maintaining the efficiency and security of your access control system.
We will pick up any existing readers and install a temporary reader(s). We will complete all necessary upgrades and then test each reader for compatibility. Upon completion of the upgrades, we will then return and reinstall it at your property to make this a seamless transition, in which, at no time will your reader be down.
*Note: Any units built prior to 2012 will need to be replaced, as they are not upgradeable.
