Project Connect: Meeting People Where They Are

Dear Steve,

Meeting people where they are at…and doing whatever it takes to end their homelessness. This is an internal mantra spoken by many team members here at Keys to Change, including myself.

Project Connect is one of the many ways Keys to Change meets people where they are at…one of the ways that would not happen without you!

Project Connect is the mobile version of Key Campus, where we, along with community nonprofit and health partners, take the services of Key Campus into neighborhoods that do not have a multifaceted site to those experiencing homelessness. Project Connect brings trained staff and volunteers to provide:

  • Needs assessments
  • On-site behavioral health and substance use disorder resources
  • Meals and showers
  • Clothes, shoes, hygiene items
  • Transportation to shelters and Key Campus
  • Medical care and referrals
  • Vital documentation (ID's etc.)
  • Medicaid and SNAP benefit registration
  • Kindness and hospitality with one-on-one support through a volunteer guide
  • And more

For many across Maricopa County, getting to Key Campus in downtown Phoenix is not only difficult, it can also be anxiety-inducing. They may have found a place in Tempe, Avondale, Mesa, or North Phoenix where they feel safe and comfortable, where they last had a home

So we go to them!

“Michael” lived on the streets near Tempe. He received a flyer from an outreach worker about Project Connect and showed up. However, he was nervous to enter the building. He sat outside, on the ground, with his head in his lap. One of our patient team members sat next to him and slowly built his trust, let him know that he was safe and could get all the help he needed. Michael shared that he was suffering from a lack of sleep, food, water – all the basic needs. Eventually, he went inside and met with the resources of Project Connect. A local recovery center had a bed open and was ready to take Michael to help him with his sobriety, and, eventually, a permanent home. Transportation was provided and Michael is still successfully working on his treatment plan at the recovery center.

Michael is one of hundreds served every year through Project Connect…hundreds who would not otherwise receive services because they are unable to get to the downtown hub.

It is an honor and a privilege to help those experiencing homelessness, and we need your help to continue the life-saving work of Project Connect.

We have two upcoming Project Connect events that need both your financial support and volunteer involvement.

DONATE

Funding will go toward critical supplies and transportation costs, such as gas, food, clothes, and hygiene items to serve at least 150 individuals per event.

DONATE NOW

VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are needed to guide, set up, and distribute resources at the event. August 28th in central Phoenix and September 26th in Avondale.

VOLUNTEER

These mobile services impact hundreds of individuals each year and bring them all steps closer to permanent housing. We could not do this without you.

Thank you for giving.

Sincerely,

Amy
