Dear Joan,
Hello!
I am Reverend Ryan Tate, a board member with NM IPL.
Interfaith action and mobilization is the key to collective liberation everywhere, both socially and environmentally. One of the reasons why I felt called to IPL (other than, of course, the fantastic work they do) were the many promises I made to The Land.
Whilst walking through The Bosque some years ago during a particularly harrowing time in my life, I swore to the Land, and to the Rio Grande, that for as long as I drew breath. I would fight against exploitation, harm, and neglect of our most fragile ecosystems and waterways. What I am doing with NM IPL is upholding a sacred oath, and one I don't plan on breaking anytime soon.
It is that same oath that motivated me to pursue planning the Rio Unidos event. Saturday, August 24th, 8:30 am-10:30 am at the North Pier at Tingley, 1800 Tingley drive.
We are seeking to highlight the Universality of water by illuminating and uplifting our Indigenous voices of The Southwest, and all people touched by the Rio Grande. Including Colorado, Texas and Mexico. We ask that those of you who may be moved, or know of anyone who may be interested, send a 60 second or less video of yourself explaining who you are, your faith beliefs, what Pueblo you are from(if applicable) and why protecting the Rio Grande is important to you both spiritually and personally.
As stated previously, all voices are welcome but we are especially wanting to hear from indigenous communities connected to the Rio Grande. There will be activities, prayers, and songs to highlight the sacredness of water. Please join us.
See you soon!
