Dear Conservancy Supporter:

After a lengthy legal dispute, the US District Court in Philadelphia ruled last week that the SS United States must leave her longstanding pier by September 12. While we are pleased the Court ruled that our landlord could not arbitrarily double our dockage fees, America's Flagship now urgently needs a new home.

The ship that once smashed all records as she sped across the Atlantic Ocean is now in an intense race against time to remain safely afloat.

America's Flagship faces twin threats to her survival. The lawsuit and subsequent court ruling give us a very limited window to secure a new home for the ship and raise the resources for moving costs and ongoing expenses. We must do both to avoid the tragic fate that we all have worked so hard to prevent for more than a decade.

In response to the judge’s ruling, we’ve launched an urgent effort to raise $500,000 to help cover the costs of the ship’s potential relocation and other essential expenses. More information about this campaign can be found HERE.

During this critical period, the Conservancy is continuing its urgent search for a new home for the ship, an effort that began long before the recent litigation. As you know, relocating a ship the size and age of the SS United States is complex and costly, and piers able to physically accommodate the vessel are very limited.

Because of these challenges and our short timeline, the Conservancy is responsibly preparing for all scenarios, including reefing or recycling the SS United States. We understand how stressful this situation is for our community, and we encourage you to visit the Frequently Asked Questions section of our website, where we provide additional background on our ongoing efforts.

We also remain deeply committed to our ongoing curatorial and educational mission. Your continued support has helped us build a major museum collection of original artwork, fixtures, archival documentation and historic components from the SS United States.

When the SS United States has faced imminent danger before, the ship’s supporters from across the country and around the world have stepped up to save her from destruction. We know we can do it again. With your continued support, we remain even more determined to save America’s Flagship.

Could you imagine the Liberty Bell being scrapped or the Washington Monument toppled? We can’t either. Please CLICK HERE to donate now.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We encourage you to “like” our Facebook page, follow us on Instagram, or follow us on Twitter, where we will continue to keep you closely informed.
