Amy Cengel named Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services

Amy Cengel was formally approved at the May 14 Board of Education Meeting as the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services. 


“As a long time employee, a parent of District 62 graduates, and a member of this community, I am fully invested in the success of our students,” said Cengel. “I look forward to working alongside Dr. Amadei and our dedicated educators to help ensure that every child has the supports, resources, and tools they need to thrive in today's world.”


The Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services is responsible for overseeing curriculum and instruction and the second language programs department as well as overseeing state and local assessments, developing the district calendar and overseeing materials adoption and management. 


Cengel has served as Principal of Forest Elementary School for the last three years. Prior to that, she was Principal at Oak Terrace Elementary School in Highland Park and was named Lake County Principal of the Year in 2019. Prior to that she was principal at South Elementary School in District 62 for three years and had also served as an instructional coach and middle school teacher in District 62. 


Cengel earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with a double major in Spanish and Sociology and later earned her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago. 


“We are incredibly excited for Mrs. Cengel to join our administrative team as our Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Amadei. “Mrs. Cengel possesses a strong commitment to student achievement and collaborative leadership style. Knowing her passion for supporting all children, I am confident she will be an asset to our team as we focus on our new strategic plan and moving our district forward to provide all children with opportunities for success.”

 

Cengel and her husband, Andy, live in Des Plaines with their three children, Noah, Anna and Carys.
