The  #1 Silver Age Comic Book in the Hobby

This issue stands alone as the HOLY GRAIL comic book collectible for Baby Boomers and Generation Xers alike, and it is understandable that it is nearly impossible to acquire in this condition. Enormously high demand is on one side of the equation and sheer scarcity is on the other; CGC has certified only 9 examples at this coveted 9.0 designation. This is out of more than 2,800 submissions to CGC for this issue. Moreover, it is a very rare occasion when one hits the open market like this. This particular example has a fresh looking cover, back cover, and supple, off-white interior page preservation. Deep, rich cover colors combine with a near perfect centering to make this one of the most attractive examples of this book that we have ever offered. It has also been evaluated in person by CVA, that has determined it has exceptional visual appeal for the assigned grade. All hyperbole aside, this is a gorgeous specimen  that would make for a special centerpiece within virtually any Silver Age collection.

In the summer of 1962, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko would conceive of and create Spider-Man, a character that would surpass all expectations and prove to be an iconic brand on his own. Who knows how many Spider-Man comics have been sold since then, and this is the issue that started it all. Casual readers quickly became devoted to a wall-crawling wonder that was just as appealing for his sarcastic sense of humor and wit as he was for his super powers. Peter Parker would find it both a blessing and a curse to be bitten by a radioactive spider, as he would be endowed with amazing strength and agility, an uncanny sense of awareness when danger was near, the ability to stick to walls and climb almost any surface, and feeling a heavy sense of responsibility. Over 55 years later, Spider-Man is a household name in the United States, and the popularity of the character has spread around the world. Spidey's outstanding cinema success has already led to six films that grossed billions of dollars globally, not to mention countless successful merchandising efforts. Excitement has accelerated once again now that Spider-man was merged with the Marvel Cinematic Universe starting in Captain America: Civil War  in 2016. The Spider-Man first solo film set in the MCU, 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming , was a huge hit and Spider-Man returns in May in Avengers: Infinity War , with another solo film already announced as well.

As is the case for all other items within this auction, time payment terms are available on this lot if they are arranged with ComicLink prior to bidding. If you wish to pay over time, call 617-517-0062 to speak with Josh Nathanson.
