Call for Volunteer Interviewers for the 21st AmCham Annual Scholarship Program

AmCham Scholarship Management team would like to invite you to be a Volunteer Interviewer for the Interview Round of the scholarship program. We strongly believe that this is an exciting opportunity to understand more about young promising students, as well as to meet up with other volunteer interviewers from HR background, AmCham HR Committee and AmCham Scholars Alumni.In general, the Interview Round is the last round of selection in the AmCham Scholarship in which 120 candidates who have passed Application Screening and Ability Tests are going to be interviewed for assessment of certain competencies in order to get shortlisted as the Winners. 

AmCham Members participate in HCMC Expo

Last week AmCham members joined the HCMC Export Forum and Trade Fair 2023 at the Saigon Exhibition and Conference Center. Jointly hosted by the municipal Department of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the event aimed to strengthen trade promotion and help enterprises expand markets.

The exhibition featured 250 booths showcasing key export products and services. AmCham member Binh Tay Food Company's booth featured delicious local dishes and a champion noodle eater from South Korea.  

Mr. Tuoc Huynh of UL Solutions and Mr. Doan Huu Duc of Vietnam Consulting Group, both leaders of the Digital Economy & Technology Committee, led a discussion at the Forum on the role of e-commerce and Fintech in enabling export businesses to be successful.

AmCham Co-Hosts Dialogue with MOLISA on Work Permits

Last week AmCham, EuroCham, BritCham and JCCI co-hosted a Dialogue organized by EuroCham and the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) to discuss work permits and the amendment of Decree 152. MOLISA was represented by Mr. Vu Trong Binh, Director of the Employment Department of MOLISA. Ms. Hang Nguyen, Partner at Baker McKenzie and member of AmCham Vietnam's Board of Governors, spoke on behalf of AmCham.



The Dialogue covered topics such as the development of the labor force in Vietnam; expectations for the amendment of Decree 152; the definition of "expert" in the context of a work visa application; simplifying visa procedures; and the importance of skilled workers for Foreign Direct Investment. 

IPEF Supply Chain Negotiations Reach Milestone; Businesses Express Concerns 

On May 27 the 14 partners of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), including the U.S. and Vietnam, announced the substantial conclusion of the negotiations of a first-of-its-kind international IPEF Supply Chain Agreement at the IPEF Ministerial Meeting in Detroit, Michigan. The proposed Agreement aims to increase the resilience, efficiency, productivity, sustainability, transparency, diversification, security, fairness, and inclusivity of their supply chains through both collaborative activities and individual actions taken by each IPEF partner.

The day before the announcement, a group of over 30 business associations, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, wrote a letter to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to express their concerns that IPEF would not include removing tariffs and other market access barriers facing U.S. businesses. They also expressed concerns about high-standard rules for digital trade. Link to the letter HERE.

NASA to land in Vietnam this June

Join NASA for the blast-off of Vietnam Space Week and STEM Day in Ho Chi Minh City (June 7), Hau Giang (June 5-6) and Binh Dinh (June 8-9). NASA Space Week is an annual celebration of NASA's achievements and contributions in space exploration, scientific research and technological development. STEM Day is designed to give teenagers the opportunity to meet astronauts and experience STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) educational activities.

Greetings from sunny Danang! Thanks to all those who participated in last week’s roundtable discussion on FDI prospects for Danang 2023/2024 in collaboration with KPMG and the Danang IPA. It was very insightful from all aspects of our intimate discussion as well as the networking dinner afterwards at Olivia’s Prime Steak House.

This is the beginning of a series of small roundtable discussions hosted by AmCham Danang and KPMG in collaboration with the Danang Government to highlight strengths and weaknesses in our local economy and form strategies to address any issues going forward.
