AmCham HCMC & Danang Weekly Newsletter

March 20, 2024

Update from the Chair

Dear AmCham,

Last week was a great example of how our Chamber and members remain actively engaged across multiple fronts to promote business and investment. I appreciate the dynamism and enthusiasm of our members involved in all the activities. I feel encouraged with the opportunities ahead and our ability to make a difference.

This past weekend in Quy Nhon, AmCham Vietnam Governors and members from all Chapters attended our National Issues Retreat, along with our partners from the U.S. mission in Vietnam. Ambassador Knapper and Consul General Burns were part of our discussions that were built around four themes: Political Change in the US, Energy Access and Growth Enablers, Workforce Development, and Communicating Vietnam.

Together with AmCham HCMC Governor and Nike Government & Public Affairs Director Giang Vu, I was honored to represent AmCham HCMC & Danang at the Meeting between HCMC leaders, Foreign Associations and Outstanding Enterprises on March 14th. In my remarks, I highlighted our appreciation for the continued partnership with the HCMC Government leaders, and listed a number of areas to prioritize in 2024.

You can read my remarks here.

We were delighted to organize a briefing for a delegation of MBA students from Lehigh University, providing insights into Vietnam's culture, economy, and business landscape. Prior to this session, the students had the privilege of being hosted by Coca-Cola Vietnam. During their visit, AmCham HCMC Governor and Coca-Cola General Director for Vietnam and Cambodia, Leo Garcia, shared the company's remarkable 30-year journey in Vietnam, and outlined plans for future growth. Special appreciation goes to members Fred Burke and Mark Gillin whose also supported this event.

AmCham Vietnam - HCMC was invited to attend the ceremony and witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Synopsys Technology Group (U.S.) and Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCMC). AmCham HCMC Governor and Fulbright University Vietnam Director of Campus Development Jesse Boone attended the event focused on enhancing training and research capacity for semiconductors at VNU-HCMC, contributing to the development of the local industry.

On March 15th, AmCham HCMC Governor Walt Power, CEO of The Grand Ho Tram, joined the celebration marking the 35th anniversary of Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP), as well as their second Hero of Labor award by the Government of Vietnam.

We welcome your feedback on how we can support you better. Please email us at team@amchamvietnam.com.
