Update from the Chair

Dear AmCham,

Our Board met on March 7th and it was heartening to note the level of activity, engagement and enthusiasm across AmCham. We are providing thoughtful feedback and recommendations to the government on various matters that are relevant to our members.

 

AmCham participated in the workshop hosted by MPI to discuss the draft Decree on the establishment of an Investment Support Fund. This is in the context of the Global Minimum Tax implementation in Vietnam with effect from this year.

Last Friday we celebrated the International Women's Day, and recognized the Women in Leadership who help us achieve our mission which to promote trade and investment between Vietnam and the United States. To celebrate Women's History Month, our Women in Leadership (WIL) Committee will be hosting a special Networking Dinner on March 26th following its scheduled monthly meeting. The Healthcare Dialogue hosted by our Healthcare Committee along with Ho Chi Minh City’s People Committee and the U.S. Consulate General on March 1, continues to get coverage by VietnamNews. [VIR] Manufacturing confidence jumps to one-year-high. Sustained growth in new manufacturing orders has prompted a renewed increase in employment, while business confidence has jumped to a one-year-high.

[Reuters] Vietnam's 'bamboo diplomacy' shifts into higher gear. Communist Party-ruled Vietnam upgraded ties with Australia on Thursday, in the latest success for its "bamboo diplomacy", after it boosted relations last year with the world's top powers, as it tries to navigate rising global tensions.

[Reuters] US aims to be 'economic partner of choice' for Indo-Pacific- Raimondo. U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo is leading a presidential trade and investment mission to the Philippines starting Monday as the United States looks to fortify economic ties across the region.

[AlJazeera] Viet­nam’s bid to exploit US-China chip tensions confronts labour hurdles. Hanoi is hoping to benefit from the push to de-risk from China amid intensifying geopolitical tensions.

[NhanDan] Improving the business environment needs to be more substantive. On January 5, the Government introduced Resolution 02 on improving the business environment and enhancing national competitiveness, which is necessary to restore the confidence of the business community in the business climate. But the more important thing is implementing the set measures effectively.

[Vietnam Briefing] Vietnam Housing Law: Draft Decree Guidelines on Foreign Property Ownership. A new draft decree clarifies regulations on foreign property ownership in Vietnam, including criteria, limitations, and permitted methods for acquiring housing.

[VietnamPlus] Deputy PM proposes expanded partnership with P&G. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang has proposed US consumer goods giant P&G consider expanding its partnership with Vietnam and facilitating the entry of Vietnamese firms into its global supply chain.
