Less Than $1 Million To Go To Close Always Forward Capital Campaign

Dear Serra Parents and Guardians,

With summer here, we are filled with immense gratitude and pride for all that we have accomplished together. This year we will celebrate the close of Serra’s largest and most successful capital campaign in school history! Together, we have raised more than $37 million and are just under $1 million away from reaching our goal by June 30.

If you have not made your Padre Fund 2023-2024 school year gift, your support today will count toward this landmark campaign and allow you to be part of history. You can contribute by using the donate button below.

We are excited to share some wonderful news about the future of our school. This summer, we are embarking on a series of exciting construction projects aimed at enhancing our facilities and creating an even better learning environment for our students.

These projects include:

Baseball Field Renovation

Serra is moving ahead with the renovation of the baseball athletic field this summer. We are breaking ground in late June, with project completion slated for the end of the fall semester.

The project will include the installation of an all weather surface with a comprehensive site drainage system. The fencing and netting will be replaced to upgrade safety for the athletes and spectators. This renovation marks another major milestone in campus renovation. In addition to supporting baseball, the multi-use field will accommodate the increased demand for an all-weather practice space for all Padre athletics teams, including, lacrosse, football, soccer and track, as well as conditioning for all student athletes. The field will provide a key facility for student lunchtime activities and Serra’s popular summer programs.

Pool resurfacing

Serra completed our swim complex in 2011. The 38-meter by 25-yard pool was designed to support water polo, diving and the swim program. This complex supports summer programs and the swim camp. Every 10 years the pool requires resurfacing to ensure it remains as a premier facility. The pool has been drained and resurfacing activities began on Monday, June 10. The project will take the entire summer, with completion slated for early August.

Science Classroom Addition

Since Serra completed the Center for Arts and Sciences in 2011, participation in science has increased dramatically. Currently, 100 percent of students take three years of UC-approved science courses and 94 percent take four years. (This exceeds the UC requirement of 2 years.) We have expanded the science programs with electives like engineering and Diseases & Human Physiology. As a result, we are renovating a classroom this summer to accommodate this increased demand. The work will be completed in time for the fall semester.

Campus Master Plan - Ensuring Our Future

On May 23, Serra officially adopted a new campus master plan, Ensuring the Future.  The master plan for the Serra High School campus is the product of a year-long collaborative planning process that brought together all members of the community, including faculty and staff, students, parents and the Board of Regents. The plan offers a powerful campus vision that reflects shared ideas and aspirations. The master plan pairs Serra’s Transforming Lives Strategic Plan goals with a vision for the campus that is inspiring, functional, and enduring. It includes specific strategies for the physical organization of the campus and campus improvements that will guide decisions for renovations, space usage, and new constructions in the coming decade.

We are committed to ensuring that these projects are completed efficiently and with minimal disruption, so that we can welcome everyone back to an even better school in the fall. This summer, our investment of more than $5 million shows our commitment to ongoing improvements of the Serra facility. We will keep you informed of the progress through regular updates over the summer.

Thank you, once again, for an amazing school year and for your continued support to make our school grow and thrive. We wish you all a restful and safe summer break. We look forward to seeing you in the new school year, ready to embark on another journey of learning and growth together.

Sincerely,

Barry Thornton, Ed.D. President

Congratulations to Serra's Graduating Class of 2024!

It is with great pride that we extend our sincere congratulations to the Class of 2024! We honored this talented group of scholars on Saturday at Serra’s 78th annual commencement at Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco. As these young men embark on the next chapter of their academic journeys, we celebrate the incredible universities and colleges they will be attending this fall. This class has received more than $28 million in scholarships to some of the finest schools in the world. This graduating class started remotely, and their success is a testament to the students' resilience and the tremendous partnership of Serra faculty, staff and parents.
Serra's Case for Support
We believe that there is an opportunity in this moment to assume an even greater, transformational role in our efforts to improve the educational experiences of our young men.

Serra’s motto, Siempre Adelante, Always Forward, provides the name and inspiration for our Capital Campaign designed to take the first step in realizing our renewed strategic vision.

Imagine the many students whose lives have been truly transformed by Junípero Serra High School. Imagine how many more lives are waiting for an opportunity to benefit from our programs. Together, we can energize our educational model, renew our facilities to support our outstanding program and do more to realize unparalleled levels of success in transforming the lives of the Padres.

We invite you to review our case for support. Imagine the difference you can make in partnering with us. Our strength as a school is the strength of our community and a unified commitment to its future.
