Alumni Student Federation Board of Governors

Congratulations, Lori!


Lori Jiava '12, '13,'16 of Wappinger Falls, NY, was recognized for her years of service to SUNY Empire at the April meeting of the Alumni Student Federation Board of Governors.


Jiava's term as a board member has ended but she will remain active as a volunteer.

Slain Officer is SUNY Empire Alumnus


Lt. Michael Hoosock ’16, ’17, a long-time deputy with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, was killed in a shooting on Sunday, April 14, in the suburbs of Syracuse. 

 

Hoosock, a public servant since he was a teenager, had been a member of the sheriff’s department for 16 years and served as the county’s bomb squad commander. He leaves behind his wife and three young children. Read more.

SUNY Empire Hosts Eclipse Watch Party


Empire State University’s Veteran and Military Resource Center (VMRC) held a solar eclipse viewing and presentation April 8, 2024.


Students, faculty, staff, and alumni came together to view the once-in-a-lifetime event in Saratoga Springs, New York, which experienced 98 percent totality.

A Mixer at the Buffalo Botanical Gardens

Alumni, students, faculty, and staff came together this month for a mixer at the Buffalo Botanical Gardens. The event was an opportunity to enjoy the gardens and recognize Robin Hodges '22, one of SUNY Empire's Bluebird Award winners. Hodges is seen in the upper right corner with Joshua Boardman, director of student engagement.

Nakesha Vines R.N. '20, a director of clinical risk management at a New York State Office of Mental Health Facility, shares insights on the experiences that led her down the path into risk management and healthcare leadership.

Community Conservation: “A New Path to Inclusion: The Autism Nature Trail at Letchworth"


Join us for a conversation with Loren Penman, one of the creators of the Autism Nature Trail (ANT) at Letchworth State Park in Castile, NY, known as the Grand Canyon of the East. The event will be held Friday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to noon.

The conversation is a celebration of Earth Day, Arbor Day, and Autism Awareness Month. Penman will discuss the design of the ANT, what makes it unique, and the visitors it serves. The event is being hosted by the Empire State Foundation in partnership with the Empire State Sustainability Committee and the Center for Autism Advocacy: Research, Education and Supports (CAARES).

Join us for a musical celebration and discussion featuring:

  • A dynamic talk by Professor Emeritus Joe Washington on the historical significance of Juneteenth
  • A musical performance by Regi Ransdell and the Rhythm Rebels

Empire Education Networking Night

Come learn about SUNY Empire’s graduate education programs from faculty and staff, while networking with alumni and current students already in the field.


Alumni are invited to come share internship and job opportunities, or network for a new job. The event is also a chance to discuss ways the education programs can become active in different communities. Refreshments will be served. Registration link and more details coming soon.
