Supporting Indigenous Communities

CCI volunteers will work on important projects identified by the Bribri community on Talamanca Mountain.

Preserving indigenous culture is woven into the fabric of Costa Rica's sustainable practices. The Bribri cultivate traditional crops and integrate native tree species, not only safeguarding their cultural heritage but also fostering sustainable land use. Despite facing challenges, including land rights disputes, the Bribri demonstrate remarkable resilience in preserving their cultural heritage and sustainable way of life.

Volunteers will directly engage with the Bribri community, assisting in cacao cultivation, organic banana production, and rice planting.

Volunteers will contribute to the preservation and propagation of rich indigenous traditions and gain a better understanding of how traditional agricultural practices support sustainable communities.

Wildlife Habitat Improvement

Our volunteers will be immersed in the lush ecosystems of Costa Rica to assist in various habitat restoration efforts. Through reforestation projects and habitat restoration, participants work hand-in-hand with local conservationists to safeguard the incredible array of flora and fauna.

CCI's volunteer efforts will be focused on planting Almendro trees .

Almendro trees are considered keystone species, offering critical sustenance and nesting sites for Scarlet Macaws. Almendro trees' branches and hollowed trunks create secure roosting and nesting spots, while their nutritious almonds form a significant part of the Scarlet Macaws' diet.

Moreover, by planting and conserving Almendro trees, CCI's volunteers are actively contributing to the preservation of this iconic species, ensuring a sustainable and flourishing environment for Scarlet Macaws to thrive.

Guatemala Projects

Since 2008, Community Collaborations International volunteers have been an important part of the continued improvements to the lives of the people of San Miguel Escobar, Guatemala.

We have partnered with local small scale coffee producers and local artisans to address issues and injustices within the coffee supply chain and to improve their quality of life.

Your volunteer team will have the opportunity to work with local direct-trade farmers, artisans, and local schools while also learning about the rich history of coffee farming and trade in Guatemala.

"You really get to know the coffee farmer by following them up to his coffee fields on the sides of Agua Volcano and then into his home, seeing and taking part in how coffee makes it from the ground to the cup. Roasting, grinding, boiling and tasting the best coffee I have ever had and I loved getting to see what real life in Guatemala is like." - Rutgers University Volunteer
