"Time flies when you're drinking rum"

10 years ago today, we were realizing our dream and feverishly transforming "the skeeviest dive bar in Alameda" into a classic mid-century style Tiki lounge. We felt we were creating something very special, but had no idea what the future would hold. Would we even be relevant in 5 years? Was Tiki a fad? Were we the only ones fascinated by the proverbial escape from reality into a faux Polynesian wonderland?  We had no idea that in 10 years, we would still be consistently ranked as one of the best Tiki bars in the country, as well as having spawned a Tiki renaissance world wide. The list of Tiki bars and lounges, both in the Bay Area and beyond, that site Forbidden Island's creation and success as a direct influence is getting longer every day! For this, we thank our wonderful and talented staff over the years as well as YOU, our loyal customers and fans, who have made our "little slice of paradise" your home away from home!

"Birth of a Tiki Bar", produced by Christopher Sorrenti

We're kicking off our 10th Anniversary festivities this Sunday, April 3rd, with the debut of our all new custom Tiki Mug, designed by famed Tiki artist Doug Horne and produced by Tiki Farm. This mug has been in the works for more than a year and is absolutely fantastic. In Doug's words, "Breaking ground with this one. At least I've yet to see it done before." The mug will be served with a tasty rummy grog, featuring our unique Mt Gay Black Barrel blend, Mt Gay XO, mango, lime, falernum, Carpano Antica and a house-made Chai honey syrup!

As we approach our 10th Anniversary date, we have a week-long celebration (details follow mid-way) beginning with an exclusive Rum Cask tasting courtesy of My Gay Rum, a live show with our friends Meshugga Beach Party (who headlined our 1st Anniversary), back to back  "strictly vinyl"  DJ shows with our resident DJs flanked with some of the best Go Go dancers on the West Coast! All this leading to the Main Event...our 10th Anniversary Celebration (Sunday April 24th, 3pm) with a traditional pig roast, a super limited edition Anniversary mug designed by Tiki Diablo and of course, celebratory cake!
